Politics is a full contact team sport. Don't step on the field if you're afraid of getting hit
Funny you should say that. I was just going to post about something related, but I've moved it to the Lounge because it's off topic for that thread.
Over here in Canuckistan, our PM is on his second term but running a minority government after the last election. He's already visibly jonesing to get back to having a majority. The other two parties are in relatively weak positions at the moment as Trudeau enjoys broad approval for his handling of the pandemic while the Conservative Party leader in particular fingers his own arsehole and smells it in public for lack of a better way to describe his performance to date. Sensing his huge advantage, the PM has sent his minions out to announce that with the budget coming up soon, his Liberals are getting prepared as though there will be an election in the spring in the event of a vote of no confidence--just in case--LOL
If the other parties force an election, the Liberals get to say, "Look, we'd rather be running the damned country and dealing with this pandemic like we have already been doing really well but instead we're out here talking to you because of those arseholes, and on top of that we don't even have the money we promised to give you because they defeated the budget. So, just vote for us already and we'll all get back to work, TYVM."
Obviously, the opposing party strategists ought to be able to see this as well as I can and advise against voting down the bill, but that gives the PM huge leverage and the opportunity to force them to accept all kinds of shit they would normally throw up on before accepting. He's got them by the nuts bigly and he ain't playin'. This is how things work in a country where the leader is a political veteran instead of a reality show host making a joke of himself.
