they were a successful crossover act that went from left hardcore to full blown metal.

their metal sound obviously influenced by their punk rock background. i was never a huge fan but they had a unique sound and the singer sounded differently to me and added his politics to their metal sound. I do like a bunch of their tracks.

I notice some 80s metal has a hardcore punk rock feel.

megadeth peace sells is very punk rock and so is Metallica kill em all. To me that’s a full punk rock album just with metal length songs and some solos. Lol

Crossover was my favorite shit because of the mix of Punk and Metal. What's funny is COC changed singers on every record in their early days. Never new what to expect.

My buddy got their first record "Eye For An Eye" and along with the contact address on the LP jacket there was a phone number. Se we dared him to call and see what happens. So he does. It was Reed Mullen's parent's house. His mom answered and put Reed on the phone. Buddy talked to him for like 15 minutes and said dude was super cool.

This album from 2005 is the one I like most of their Metal stuff. This first song's got a nice vibe.

@Gutter Chris
@Cubo de Sangre

This is straight up punk rock. That opening riff the lyrics the attitude. This is more punk than metal if you ask me.

If this song was 1:20 minutes it would be pure punk.

I think if you draw a vent diagram of metal and punk there would be quite an overlap. I already see them as sort of cousins of sorts.

I hear you. I'd still say it's more Metal overall. But yeah, no secret Dave had Punk influences. Metallica was always rockin' the Misfits and Septic Death shirts.

Yes I think you’re right. I like when I notice it in songs though.

“hey that’s very punk rock sounding”

Chris even the lyrics of peace sells are so punk.

What do you mean, "I don't believe in God"?
I talk to him everyday
What do you mean, "I don't support your system"?
I go to court when I have to
What do you mean, "I can't get to work on time"?
Got nothing better to do
And, what do you mean, "I don't pay my bills"?
Why do you think I'm broke? Huh?
If there's a new way
Oh, I'll be the first in line
But it better work this time

well it’s metal because of certain metal characteristics like that guitar but the bass and it’s soul is punk rock. The lyrics and even the attitude with the singing. It’s really just thrash metal which is a combo of both but i feel what you’re saying

It's still pretty metal though too. I gotta be in the mood for megadeth or Dave annoys me.
