ANOTHER meeting about microaggressions. I take back what I said earlier, I might crack too.

It came up in a team meeting once last year, the day we had a new temp hire.

One of the attorneys began purposefully using the wrong name for people like calling me George instead of Greg when the "using an incorrect name can be a microaggression". Then that was followed up by another attorney saying "I need coverage for XYZ date because I will be in a 4 day rape then" meaning rape trial and one of the other attorneys "oh, everyone looks forward to a 4 day rape".

The temp had that uncomfortable laugh that read of "oh my god, what did I get myself into?" look

I'm reading Turing's paper called ''Can Machines Think?" and I stumbled on this passage:

I got some pretty big personal news.

I've come to realize I don't have it in me to be an accountant for the next 29 years of my life so I just let my company know that I'm leaving the profession in the next 2 months. I'm going back to school to become a Nurse (Murse?). My VP thinks I'm crazy, which could be true but 12 years of excel spreadsheets has taken it's toll so C'est la vie.

When that happens I'm going to start working a menial job 2nd or 3rd shift as I go to school so my posting is going to take a serious hit in May.

Congrats. Back to making sandwiches!

Sociology. I had the idea at the time that I was going to get a master's in social work and get into substance abuse counseling, then did a 180 after graduating and have been working in business and finance. I'm taking accounting and business classes on the side at the moment, tentatively planning to go for a master's in 2022.

Let me guess, you encountered the low pay that a Soc degree gets you? I did. Managing a mailorder selling Heavy Metal records was more lucrative. Now I do accounting. Not a CPA, just a regular ol' staff peon. Stills pays a fuckload more than social work. Far less drama too. And unlike @PolishHeadlock2, I love Excel.

That said, I don't like my job and sometimes think I'd rather go back to washing dishes just to get away from the corporate culture. Not sure this post helps, but I feel better having made it.

I have a damn plate carrier, belt with mag pouches and an OWB holster and even I don't feel th eneed to have a walkie talkie rig (my headset you can even set up to have a PTT system in it).

Why? If shit hits the fan I have my phone and if it REALLY hits the fan communications are going to be useless anyways and at that point I'm just worried about getting me and my family to safety.

I have a coupe of Motorola walkies for if coms break down.
I have them charged and in their case... I dont walk around with them and I think its a weird thing to bring to a protest for no reason. "oh in case the telecommunication breaks down. So I can contact".. who exactly? The range for walkies with that small antenna is not that great.

I could see people use walkies to coordinate shit on site, and stay of smartphones with built in GPS and what not.. No data to track or trace.

Good for you bulleh. I suspect it’s so you can steal drugs and potentially become a serially killer but I’m very happy for you! Chase your dreams of drugs and murder!

Can't lie, it don't suck. The bitch of it is that's what keeps me at this job. I live about 30 minutes from the nearest employment possibilities. 15 if I want to work at the nearest bar, burger stand, or gas station. Even if I wanted to drive an hour to Kona, or closer to two hours to Hilo, I'd be looking at a sizable pay cut.

I'm ready to move and change jobs. Would stick with accounting though since I'm not passionate enough about anything to start from scratch. The problem with moving is the weather sucks everywhere outside of SoCal and well, fuck living in SoCal. Have considered going back to CO and dealing with the cold and snow.
