It used something called an en bloc clip to load rounds into an internal magazine.
When the magazine ran dry, the clip was ejected.

The whole second amendment argument is crybaby bullshit. and besides if he wanted to exercise his gun rights, Minnesota has an open carry law he should’ve just worn it on his hip proudly.
Most semis at the very least have eight in the magazine and one in the chamber that’s nine rounds certainly enough for self protection.
My honest opinion is that he took the gun with the extra magazine because he was anticipating and hoping for an armed confrontation. Well, he got one.

Hedging was the wrong word. Maybe that's your practice but it doesn't mean people that carry an extra magazine are looking for a gunfight. The strongest evidence we have are his actions. Maybe there's some video out there I haven't seen but his crime seemed to be trying to help a woman that was violently shoved to the ground and the same agent then went on to brutalize him as well along with the other agents that piled on.

Openly carrying as you suggest is something I think would fit your opinion of the guy more than carrying an extra magazine. Open carry is more a risk to your safety than concealed carry and it would more likely be done by someone larping or looking for a confrontation if CC was an option. At no point did this guy seem to brandish and if he did pull the gun it must have been when there were 6 agents beating on him.
 
The 2028 Dem nominee for POTUS thinks that anyone bringing guns to a protest is just looking to incite and cause trouble.
