Fans always want this "competition" but the reality is look at what that has been in the last 10 to 12 years. None of them stick around and none them are real players in the the mma free agent world. I don't even know if 25 fighters have ever really benefited from a real free agency in all those years and were able to capitalize 100% because of the perceived competition. I can think of some, no doubt. But for many it never mattered in the end.
I think when we think of competition or free agency we think like WWE vs WCW era shit or what we have come accustomed to in other sports. That has never really existed in MMA and now that the UFC has basically branded MMA=UFC it is over. No one is ever going to get enough legs to matter. You have PFL making a major splash with Francis, swallowing up Bellator, etc. But now they are trying to figure out how to operate the PFL outside of tournaments with all these new fighters and make good business sense of it all. Until they figure that out and can make money I'm not sure they will be doing a whole lot in free agency market when it comes to named fighters from the UFC.
The landscape of MMA at this point fans should wish all the best fighters fight in the UFC(large majority do) and pray the UFC fighters wake up one day soon and form a union/association to get better pay/rights. Because the later is really what fans and fighters are talking about when talking about competition. If the UFC fighters ever do this it will end any chance of real competition for ever for the UFC as the B leagues will have no way of being able to compete with what that collective bargaining agreement will give fighters throughout their career. They will be left with cast offs and be a stepping stone. I guess not much different than now in some cases.
