In Dusseldorf I had a roasted pork knuckle. Was very good. Apparently that's some kind of local specialty.

Yeah their Schweineshaxe (roast ham hock) is f'ing delicious and goes great with the klosse potato dumplings.

I had baked pretzels in Germany, they were a lifesaver in winter

when i was in germany i kept seeing toilets with this little shelf in them. it was explained to me that's how they check for worms.

So yeah that sandwich makes sense.

Fair enough. Just giving my insight as a German. We used to eat it all the time and I never heard anyone call it that. Might also be a regional thing, who knows.
