Would Sakuraba have beaten Rickson Gracie?

Who would have won?

Sak fought a very open and dynamic style. Rickson was very good at taking advantage of one minor mistake and grinding it all the way down to a choke. I say Rickson over Sak by punches into rear naked choke 7 minutes in.

Saku by whatevs.

Saku was great but he would be giving up size to a superior grappler than he had ever faced and bout of their striking was shit. hickson by arm bar

Every single top bjj guy that has ever rolled with rickson has said he is the absolute best they ever rolled with.

I don't care about the 400 -0 garbage, but we have seen him fight mma, and we have some of the best jiu jitsu guys ever saying he is the best.

I think standing that Saku would have given him problems. However rickson also had good takedowns unlike the other gracies that Saku beat. I think eventually rickson gets him down, and then once they are on the ground I think rickson taps him out.

I'm a huge fan of both guys. I just think that if royce could last 90 minutes with him, without Saku knocking him out or subbing him, that rickson wouldn't get stopped either, and on top of that I'll take rickson over anyone of that era on the ground.

Would have loved to have seen that fight though. Nothing but respect for both of those warriors.

You whippersnappers are crazy. Sak, as much as I loved him could barely beat little ol' Hoyce.
Hoyce said his big brother beat him any time he wanted to, and that he got picked by the UFC because noone thought it would be impressive when his big bad brother ran through every one.
3 minutes, Rickson by whatever he wanted.

Saku would have won. At the end of his career Rickson accepted only fights he knew he would win. Notice he never accepted a fight with Saku and you can be garunteed that Pride would have paid Rickson a ridiculous bundle of money to accept that fight.

Rickson was the strongest of the Gracie's i believe, and his BJJ was the best out of all of them. However, i think Sakuraba was more well rounded which would "offset" Ricksons grappling. Sakuraba would have utilized his kicks more so than in any of his Gracie matches i think. Thus i believe Sakuraba would have won by unanimous decision or by TKO. Rickson would never be submitted by Sakuraba, i will highly be convinced of that much.

The rumor was that Ricksons son had died when he was supposed to face Sakuraba, but i am unsure of this story and how true it is.

I say Sakuraba. The Rickson's legend has grown so out of proportion, especially with so little video evidence, it makes people think it was just a promotional gig by Gracies. From the few videos I saw of Rickson he has the same weird leg stomp Royce used to do. Didn't see anything that would make me believe he was head and shoulders above the competition.

Maybe not in MMA, but there's nothing from decades of info from his haters to people that have rolled with him once to many many times that have said anything other than he's simply the best in BJJ. (He's at an older age now obviously so you can't compare him to new guys.) But everyone acknowledged it was a different level than everyone else.

Saku beats the ever loving shit out of Rickson but walks away with a draw because the Gracies would bastardize the fight with a bunch of bullshit rules like when Leonard rematched Duran.

Difficult call. I say Rickson, but it could have gone either way.

Yeah. When all of the best people talk about getting their asses handed to them when rolling with him, it sort of demands attention.

Really? Sakuraba?

The guy who willingly fights monsters at a higher weight class disregarding his own weight and welbeing? A guy that is known for his warrior spirit? something that lacks in today's mma world?

OFC HE WILL WIN.
