Would Ngannous run with limited grappling and mainly punching work in the old UFC?

Im curious since grapplers filled up the sport much more in the early days, would Ngannou get stopped sooner and more often back when wrestlers and jujitsu players dominated?

Or is this an invalid question since most fighters werent his size and skilled back then?
What do you guys think?

They were more skilled and many HW were the same size as now.

Ngannou likely loses to Fedor, Randy, Barnett, Ricco, Nog, JDS, Cain, Werdum, DC.

Of these his best shots are Werdum, Ricco, Barnett who may keep it on the feet too long. With Werdum it depends on which one shows up.

Prime god chin Hunt has a chance too.

He always beats AA, Tim, Mir, Nelson, Rothwell, Brock, Rizzo, Sergei, Aleks, Crocop

Ubereem, Coleman have a decent shot too

which ngannou? The ngannou that won the belt has good wrestling and is a better athlete than any of the old era HWs, I think that version of ngannou beats every HW but if you're talking about the 2018 ngannou who got ragdolled by stipe then he would lose to a few guys after he gasses out in round 1
did you watch gane vs nganou?
nganou look like sht vs gane
gane should have been the champ if he didnt try to submit nganou

that version of nganou would have lost to prime jds with better hands and granite chin

prime cain would suffocate him

gane took nganou down 🤣
thats the champion nganou your reffering

Ngannou outwrestled Gane for like 5 rounds. Also, Ngannou needed surgery around that time. He's not a young guy.

can you pows me the stats?
lets count how many takedowns and time did nganou controlled gane
and post the significant strikes per round

i saw an nganou that was blasted and outstriked
he also got taken down

The Franc that lost to Stipe? No. The Franc that figured Stipe out and brutalized him? Yea, that guy beats a lot of the earlier champs no problem imo.

Assuming this a prime vs prime discussion:

I think Barnett, Mir, Werdum, and Nog may have presented some problems and may have been able to catch Franc in something. Franc never faced any grapplers with a submission game like those dudes.

Randy was mentioned, and I don’t think it’s impossible for Randy to pull off a workmanlike victory, but then again, Franc is going to be harder to grind on for 5 rounds than someone like Tim.

Wouldn’t pick Brock.

I’m still picking prime Cain and JDS confidently. I’d also pick the best version of DC.

Kettlebell Fedor demolishes him.

Against which version of Ngannou? When he left the sport he was improving.

Didn't he brutally KO both Cain and JDS without being remotely in trouble? He gassed hard and was totally pounded by Stipe but never even really appeared phased.

Just curious how you figure confidently, when prime Cain was knocked out quickly and similarly by JDS and almost by Kongo.

Coleman, Noguiera, pre-diverticulitis Brock, Fedor would probably be best bets. DC was an animal but I think Ngannou would've got him out of there early as well.

I think Werdum would sub Ngannou right now today if they fought.

Yeah, my grandpa would also beat Ngannou right now today. He's dead but Ngannou has shit cardio anyways, and my grandpa was a great electrician so he had skills.

Apples to bowling balls

The level of talent in the UFC heavyweight division before fighters like Cain and Dos Santos, was horrendous. Ngannou wipes out pretty much everyone until those guys. Turns out he wiped them out too although they were past it by then.

ngannou had 2 torn knees in that fight and could barely walk, he had to do 1.5 year rehab after gane fight to relearn how to do explosive movements with his knees. It's arguably the worst injury a fighter has ever entered the cage with and Ngannou still beat gane while at his worst condition

nganou has always been a fighter with no gas tank through out his career
the fact that gane was the superior striker
and nganou was just a brawler but you cant admit it

i see all excuses when he performs badly
lmfaoo

it's a fact that he had to relearn how to walk and do 1.5 years of physical therapy after the gane fight, if you think having 2 destroyed knees didn't affect his performance then you are just biased lol

Depends on his defense. Mark Coleman or old Ken would have just taken his ass down and then proceeded to whoop that ass.

Excuses? But he still won....

Like he did have legit surgery after and did not fight for nearly 2 years. Those things are factual.

He barely struck with Gane and had a grappling oriented game plan from the start, it wasnt like he panic shot.

He's old and has bad knees and still won by a large margin. So...what excuse is there?

did u watch the fight?
he was throwing.bombs vs gane but cant catch gane

because gane was the superior striker
post the stats and you can see ho much he throwed

i dont see any excuse when jones had a pec injury amd brole his toes live in a fight

I think a lot of the pride heavyweights win. I see him losing against kharitoniv, aleks, barnett and Fabricio. I see it being 50 50 with cro cop, fedor, semmy, nog. I always found aleks to be a better boxer than fedor, only difference is fedor was more effective and better ground game but wasn't always technically sound. Now UFC heavyweights different story Coleman dies, couture loses, Frank mir 50 50, prime arlovski 50 50(my all time favorite heavyweight), and he beats Sylvia.

There are certain match ups which are very difficult for him. Cormier, Cain, Barnett, those guys have aggressive grappling games and good TDs.
