Worst fighter to become champion?

Ricco Rodriguez was a highly skilled grappler on par with Nougeria back in the day. One of the greatest BJJ practitioners in the world actually. There are no "worst fighters" who became champions in my opinion.
Yeah it is a bit of an oxymoron to have a “bad fighter” who became champion. That’s why I created this thread because it’s a bit of a difficult question to answer

Any WMMA titleholder.

Anybody that argues with this isn’t being honest.
You are completely missing the point of the thread. The question is which champion had the worst skill set.

Nunes, Shevchenko, Zhang, Jedrzejczyk, Namajunas, Cyborg, Rousey, Holm

All of them have better skill sets than many former male champions.

Agree except for Zhang, I see her and Paul Felder as the same people. And Holm is a copy of her former teammate Cowboy Cerrone

The most recent awful champs would have to be GDR and Montano, I can't think of any other fighters in the last decade I would consider to be awful as champs.

There were plenty in the older school of the UFC though like Dave Menne, Tim Sylvia, Jens Pulver, Matt Serra, Carlos Newton, etc.
There have been some good fighters who over achieved and held the belt briefly like Bisping, Alverez, Holm, Forrest and I would say Couture at HW.

Yes Holm is not that great in terms of holding the title, lost on her first defense and she's been riding the wave of KOing Rousey when she was queen of MMA.

Edit: Forgot Esparza, she was actually pretty awful.

Ricco Rodriguez was a beast, look at his damn resume! Did you just pull that name out of the air or something?

He had a terrible decline, but his earlier days were nothing to be ashamed of

Griffin. He was lucky twice when both Shogun and Rampage didn’t show up in his fights with him. Lost it to Evans who never defended and wasn’t that good.

Matt Serra. There is no other option.

Dave Menne...

Alvarez? Really?
Alvarez , as a whole, a bad ass with a great career but if u really look at it- as far as UFC champ is concerned - look at the 3 fights before his shot. He had the round off his life against a then scorching RDA but I think Eddie was at the beginning of other side of career when he got to UFC. Putting women & old school aside, I'd say Serra, Bisping and then Alvarez. Eddie still a legend of sport unlike the other 2.....but thsts me.

* oh shit, forgot about Lesnar-
