Former UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson was not happy to learn that his most recent opponent Darren Till was receiving a title shot against reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 228.

“Wonderboy” suffered a controversial decision loss to the “Gorilla” this past May in Till’s hometown of Liverpool.

Despite missing weight in two of his last four octagon appearances, including his most recent bout with Thompson, Darren Till was granted a title opportunity against Tyron Woodley on September 8 in Dallas by the UFC.

In a recent interview with BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor, Stephen Thompson was asked if the roles were reversed and he had been awarded the decision win over Darren Till at UFC Liverpool, this after missing weight by 3.5-pounds, if he felt the UFC would have given him the same treatment (a title shot at UFC 228).

“No,” Thompson quickly responded. “Heck no! I don’t think so at least”

Stephen Thompson then shared his theory on why the UFC is pushing Darren Till so hard.

“The only thing that makes sense to me about it all is that Michael Bisping was on his way out. The UFC knew that and they really don’t have a whole lot of people to promote from the United Kingdom. So they have this loud mouth kid, who is tough and literally just fell into their lap so now they’re pushing him forward. That’s all I can really see. It doesn’t make sense. There’s really no other scenario that makes sense. None of this makes sense to be honest. Why is this fight even happening?”

Thompson continued:

“I remember Darren Till bragging in the lead up to our fight that he couldn’t believe the UFC was letting him cut to 170 because he is such a big guy and what not. Then he didn’t even make weight for the fight. He wasn’t even close. I mean why brag about that? If you’re such a big tough dude then why aren’t you fighting in your natural weight class? Let’s just hope he makes the weight on September 8.”

He's not wrong, but Wonderboy probably not getting another shot for a while. Next in line will be Colby.

Wonderboy you had two goes and your second was a snoozer, let somebody else have a go because nobodies in a hurry to see that repeated.

Wonderboy needs to learn aggression and sense of urgency..

He’ll be much closer in line with Till as champ than with Woodley

Agreed if Till wins that resets the while division. But even so, Wonderboy needs to come out and get an entertaining win. He needs to start getting some people out of there instead of losing close decisions.

Wonderboy should have fought to win.
His own fault

I'd rather watch Wonderbread go stale than watch some of Wonderboy's conservative performances.

The last time Wonderboy put on an exciting performance was against Hendricks and that seems like it was forever ago.

It is better for Wonderbiy if Till wins. He may get a rematch with Till with a good win or so.

Guys, nowhere does Wonderboy say that he (Wonderboy himself) deserves the title shot.

He's just saying it's off that Till gets it coming off of a fight where he missed weight and it wasn't the only time.

But he didn't win so he can suck it. Next.
so by losing the fight, he forfeits his right to comment on the title fight?

i guess you beat wonderboy in a fight then, commenting on this?

No don't spin my words. If he was going to be so salty about it he should have won the fight instead of being a boring stalling fighter like he has been.

I could see your argument if Wonderboy was saying HE should be getting the shot instead of Till, but he's not. I think he's right in saying Till is being handed opportunity. This weight thing is gonna go all wrong for Till.

Why cut the last 5 hardest pounds when you get rewarded for missing weight.

UFC Logic: Take 20% of the guy's purse, but then put him on the headline of a ppv.

Yea... that'll totally teach him...

Didn't he make Till cut weight until the next day and he's still complaining?
