WNBA is a slower , less athletic, less explosive version of the nba. Like WMMA , WNBA is basically subsidized by the nba as it's basically a loss to operate WNBA even with their paltry salaries. The only real difference is mma fans are forced to ingest WMMA as it gets placed on the cards so there is no way to truly vote won your wallet. Imagine if nba playoffs had a quarter of WNBA game mixed in during half time, there would be outrage.
Does WNBA have good fundamentals like WMMA ? Sure they are good at shooting and passing, just like in WMMA you can find good fundamental strikers and ground artists, but as WNBA has a lot of solid guards they lack any type of explosive, entertaining a level athlete like Lebron or Westbrook or curry. Similar to how WMMA has nothing comparable to a rumble Johnson or black beast, just a bunch of pitty pat volume strikers equivalent to a good WNBA guard with some flashy spin moves .
WMMA is also showing, like WNBA , how there is no depth and minimal skill differential from top to bottom. Everyone is .500 or slightly better and we will likely continue to see round robin of champions except in the lower weight class with zero depth.
Another similarity is the fans , WNBA fans are girls, dads with girls who like basketball, creeps who only follow the attractive players, and a small amount of hardcore fans who will watch literally any basketball. WMMA differs here a bit in that the quantity of creeps is much higher as the chances for pics and gifs of near nude athletes is higher, same concept as why beach volleyball gets high ratings in the olympics. After every event and weigh in you will see every time the highest rated gifs are shots and wardrobe issues, quite odd really with how easily you can access porn these days.
