Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Shame, I was watching her career develop in LFA, now after this fight I won't see her again for another 3 years
<{1-8}>
lol probably depend on if she can build hype, much like the UFC. Also, being from S. America, she probably fights cheap. Both important factors in current day ONE.

Interesting list. Very Brazilian heavy (author is obviously a LFA fan). Almost no acknowledgement of Euro or Asian fighters, however. Mir is on an Olympic run, I believe , and Kim So Yul is already in the testing pool, but not bad overall. Thoughts?

Alivia Bier;y (3-1) vs Nikola Kacperska and (3-3)

Alexandra Carlson (0-1) vs Lydia Warren (3-2)

Hey, I can finally post, too! Samurai Fight House strawweight title fight above.

Still kinda skeptic on her. She's good, but her opponents have been cherry picked. She needs to step up in competition. I feel like someone like Nawira Ferreira who's far better than her records indicates would be a step up in competition. She should also rematch Xiomara Piriz as that is not a good loss to have on her record.

For those who can’t see tweets, Brazil’s Gabriella Fujimoto (7-0) signed with ONE, taking on Jihin Radzuan (9-5) Feb 13th

Odd. LFA seemed to be getting behind and building her up slowly and looked like someone they would eventually try to get signed to the UFC. I guess the Fight Pass deal expiring will make LFA change up and try to move fighters to other organizations if offers come. Very good fight.

2025 in review:

2025 was difficult to write about. while the overall level of wmma has risen, highlight moments seemed few and far between. so instead of superlative-type list that i usually write i've gone for an overall health check of the women's divisions. as i am no expert, this is meant to jump start conversations.

featherweight: cris cyborg is pfl fw champ. that's all i know.
health: 3/10

bantamweight: title wise, kayla vs. amanda is compelling. aside from some old-heads in the top 15, there's enough youngsters scattered in to keep the rankings healthy. some decent unranked prospects, such as melissa croden, michelle montague and melissa gatto.
health: 5/10

flyweight: val is still champ i suppose. her fight with manon was very entertaining, which is something i don't usually say about val fights. ranked fighters are actually fighting each other, which is a sign of a healthy division. outside of the rankings there's plenty of fighters, but carli judice is the one that stands out from the pack so far. i expect to see her entering the rankings this year.
health: 7/10

strawweight: the division is in a strange place right now. top ranked are very late in their careers, and most have fought for the title already. mac dern deservedly won the title against a woefully under-prepared virna. with dern as champ, the title race is wide open and i don't think anyone is gonna hold the belt for long, not even D1 weili (when she comes back down). young ranked prospects are bright - with gillian robertson, fatima kline and alexia thainara the brightest. new signings foro and dyer put on a good dwcs scrap too.
health: currently 6/10 (and getting better by year-end, hopefully)

atomweight: put them in the ufc already! i know phetjeeja is a ONE atomweight KB champ (which is strawweight in UFC), but she has hands like rocks and could be good fun. i would add seika izawa in too if she didn't fight mostly bums.
health: ???

regular awards:

FOTY: val vs. manon - truly a performance worthy of "the beast". manon's tenacity and sheer toughness won me over. plus she made a val fight fun, huge props to them both.

WTF (women's title fight) award: val vs. weili. yup.

most improved: alice ardelean, montserrat ruiz, klaudia sygula, mizuki inoue

gym of the year: fighting dweebs going 1-4 this year, with the single win coming from bruna brasil v. doctor sleep in china

nice jitz! award: vanessa demopoulos repeatedy sonning ishowspeed:

(this is never gonna get old, ever.)

fighter of the year: DANIELLE MISTELI for snatching necks at 49 years old:

2025 all-violence team:

bantamweight: joselyne edwards

flyweight: carli judice

strawweight: fatima kline

atomweight: phetjeeja

Montenegro is the fighter that got signed off of DWCS even though she lost a close split decision. Man looking at her record I doubt she’s ready for the big show.

She s not young for a woman let alone woman fighter.
When you look at the ages of every other ranked straw weight, she’s younger than a lot of of them

Have to agree. She's a decent fighter, but I don't think she's UFC ready. Her main quality is her heart and durability.
