Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Ducote maybe goes back to Invicta. Pudilova maybe back to Oktagon.

It’s a shame with Pudilova, because she worked hard to get back, then got robbed against Nunes, and underperformed in her next two. I think SBG is partly to blame. Aside from Conor, they can only get fighters so far.

From the Super Rizin 3 wrap-up by Sherdog's Robert Sargent:

Rena Kubota (15-5, 14-4 Rizin) stopped Kate Oyama (5-7, 0-1 Rizin) with an onslaught of punches at the 4:18 mark of Round 2 and then requested a shot at the Rizin FF women’s super atomweight title.

She’s been wanting a title shot for a while, but as one person put it to me, “she wants the title shot, but doesn’t want to fight anyone to earn it.”

Meanwhile, Izawa is about to fight her second RIZIN retiree fight in a row.

Pudilová looked like someone who didn't really want to be doing MMA any more in her last fight - I'm not sure that's is actually the case but it certainly looked like it - I sort half expect her to announce that she's been checked out and retire though (more likely, she ends up in Oktagon). I suppose her early style was unsustainable but it's a shame she had so little spark (literally NONE) left by now, I too will blame SBG for the lolz (though seriously she's not the first wildstyle fighter to go there and come out a tentative husk). Let's just remember the good times 🙏

Ducote was a different kind of disappointment, she looked great in Invicta like she'd finally hit her stride in the right division, then just looked overawed the whole time in the UFC. However we must also note she is the second fighter in a row to be brutally robbed by Demopoulos and left cut and destitute as a result; a trend that must have Amorim stans (@fortheo ) sleeping a little less comfortably
[omg1]

also what's up with all the people saying they want to see Bruna vs Bannon or Loma, are the people who work for the UFC booking all the pointless rematches posting here? 🤨 ;)
(I wouldn't be surprised if Bruna got cut with an L in that fight too - good for her for showing up bigly)

Weekend picks.
I got Santos out muscling Liz for the win. Edit read Liz is overweight so she's also down -1 before the fight on the cards.
I think Dakota gets by Jena maybe with a lucky finish as Bishop walks into something rushing a TD.

I hope loopy threads the needle of out grappling Dern with wrestling but staying away from submission threats. I could see dern landing more powerful shots if it's all strikes and obviously has a good submission chance too.

I like Sampage toughness but I think she's fodder for Dudakova here.

Santos - that down -1 could really cost Liz if it goes to decision
Dakota - better in every aspect imho
Dern - should be a great fight
Sampage - she may have strength advantage here

liz and bishop for pfl upsets

dudakova i suppose - sampage is tough but needs more tools
gut says dern, heart says loopy

i'm watching olympic women's judo, it's been pretty fun :) i don't quite understand the rules but the pace is brisk and there's been some cool trips and chokes

Good for Amy Pirnie. She was maybe the best 50-52kg mt lady between 2015-2019, but had been inactive and hadn't fought for several years. Hopefully Chatri doesn't put her in the Hamderlei/Meksen/Takeru folder. Should be a beautiful moment for a women's muay thai legend type, but Chatri probably over there steaming. Pirnie didn't even get an interview after a 50 second ko.

Pirnie was Ditcheva's first big test in pro muay thai;

Hopefully this loss doesn't mess with Yu Yua Pui's confidence. Would be terrible to see her trying to become more technical, and ruin her style.
