Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

this week i'm going for the more veteran fighter in each matchup.
- mariya agapova somehow? girl needs tattoo money!
- jas jas hands prospect loss to young buck fatima
- thug rose stays on the feet and touches tracey's face up with jabs. (tracey has zero head movement)

ROSE (DEC) over Cortez
I'd like to take Cortez because Rose is winless against Latina wrestlers (ahem), but not in 5 rounder; even less because it's short notice at altitude and one of Tracy's coaches initially even said it was only going to be 3. Suspect she's not prepared for 5 & a lack of oxygen in the air.
Also Tracy has a necktat now. BOOOO (OK it's technically just below her neck... but still)

JASU (DEC) over Klein
Really not sure - Kline is better but smaller and doesn't quite seem in shape for short notice so I'll pick the bigger + better prepared for altitude fighter (and a wrestler!) again.

LUANA over Agapova (sub?)
they're both cardio-sus but Maryia, well, we all know what's going on with her... early KO or bust (plus Luana is a judkoa which is almost like being a wrestler). Should be a fun fight.

Been waiting for another fight for Amorim. I think she wins a decision here, maybe a late sub. Hopefully it goes a little longer than her last fight so we can see how her game is developing.
Amorim better get the sub or Vanessa is going to win by Unanimous Robbery

I thought murata clearly won too. Hell, ducote probably should have won, too, but I don't remember that one as well.

Amorim is too attractive to lose a close fight on the scorecards. Don't worry.

There needs to be an investigation into how many of the judges were regulars at Vanessa's strip club IMO.

Incidentally Amorim was originally said to be fighting MIZUKI. Maybe Mizuki's knee fell off again. I've no qualms with UFC keeping Mizuki (of course!) but let's face it, she's knackered already (though not even 30 yet). Murata had more potential but they cut her after a loss via injury and a loss via 'robbery of the year nominee' :(. Mizuki will make a great coach at least (and already seemed to have some kind of coach/mentor/senpai bond with Murata during their time off)...

Invicta 56 just announced for Stockyard Events Center in Denver.

Also, for anyone who enjoyed getting news from r/wmma, it’s dead. Not officially, but de facto. The mods shadow banned or outright banned people until only ReactQ was responsible for greater than 95% of posts there. Now his account is gone.

Santos steamrolled Agapova. Mariya should go down to Invicta or another regional promotion, get some confidence building fights. Figure out what she does well, focus on it, while making improvements elsewhere.

Aside from a scare early in the third round, Jasudavicius made easy work of Fatima Kline en route to a decision. People keep using size as an excuse, while ignoring that Kline is a big Strawweight. The lack of prep and overall experience is far more to blame. Kline’s stock took a slight hit, but she was so overhyped to begin with, it won’t hurt her too much as she moves back to Strawweight.

While the phrase “there’s levels to this” is way overused, Namajunas vs Cortez really showed that there are, indeed, levels to this sport. At one pout, I saw people on Twitter asking “what is Cortez good at,” and I found myself struggling to answer. Rose cruised to a win here. I couldn’t find a single round to give Cortez (maybe the fifth? I stopped paying as much attention by then), let alone two like one judge did.

Most of the next Invicta card just dropped, courtesy of Eventbrite:

Update:
The current fight card can be found below:

Bantamweight: Jennifer Maia vs. Mayra Cantuária
Strawweight: Valesca Machado vs. Yulia Ostroverkhova
Featherweight: Riley Martinez vs. Kelly Ottoni
Flyweight: Kate Bacik vs. Paula "Bittencourt" Cristina
Atomweight: Flor Hernandez vs. Ana Palacios
Atomweight: Ailed Zubieta vs. Giulliany Perêa
Featherweight: Ali Pellegrini vs. Marissa Ellis

Palacios is a really nice get. The fact she’s fighting outside Combate Global likely means the rumor they’re about to go under is true
