Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Cheering for Blanchfield, Godinez and Dudakova

But then Fiorot is huge and why is Victoria Sergeevna fighting at 125? Oh and let's be honest, if Jandiroba had looks or a personality or a cool backstory she'd be a big favorite here.

On reflection, Erin inside the distance, Gatto and Virna split decision wins.

Edit: OK didn't realise Dudakova missed weight at Abu Dhabi, so now taking her to win. Gatto wouldn't deserve to be cut though.

Mythical fighter Erin Blanchield is born

Fiorot handled Blanchfield a bit easier than I thought, but as said before, I am kinda glad it was her - Erin has better time to get back into the mix. Good sttuff. Hopefully whoever wins after TUF is able to get back soon so Manon does not have to sit on her fist for too long. Anyhow - will be very interesting fight no matter if it's Grasso or Val (but I truly hope Grasso defeats Val again, so there is no threat of a 4th consecutive fight between them to "break the tie")

Bummer about Loopy. Haven't watched yet.

And kinda bummer that Gatto didn't get to fight, even though for other, more impotant, reasons I am not sad at all the fight dematerialized.

Loopy still struggles against veteran fighters, she ended up in a striking match vs. Hill and lost, this time she got out-MMA'd. Virna stuck her in the face with her jab all night long and out-scrambled her after pulling her to the ground with questionable takedown moves. Loopy seems to get stuck in standup or wrestling mode whereas Virna did a better job of mixing things up. 2nd round was pretty questionable though, leg locking each other for over half a round is something which shouldn't be happening in the UFC.

My big question for the main event was whether Manon's cardio would hold up for 5 rounds, well, it did, and Erin got picked apart pretty handily. All the weaknesses which I've been talking about since the Aldrich fight are still there, her standup sucks, her defence is poor, and her takedowns aren't particularly good. Manon wasn't that great either, she depends way too much on her size & athleticism and often left herself in bad positions where a better fighter than Erin could've made her pay. There were a bunch of times where Manon missed the lead hook then ends up bumping into Erin and almost turning her back to her, those should've been easy step-around body locks to a takedown but Erin never figured out how to wrap her up.

Thoughts. Manon is really the 125 Holly Holm with the way she abuses her size & athleticism to play the outside point fighting game. Erin is a lot more like Maycee Barber than anyone else, she's got heart, cardio, and aggression, but her skills need a lot of work. Weird shit happens in her fights all the time and that's how she's gotten some of her wins, it almost happened again with Manon throwing herself into a guillotine in the 1st round, but when that wonky shit don't happen she tends to struggle. I think my initial assessment was mostly right, she's shown good cardio and seems to be stronger these days, but in terms of fundamentals and skill development not much has changed.

Some of Erin's fans are coping hard. They're saying stuff like:
-Fiorot tapped to the guillotine
-She's a biological man
-She's juiced to the tits
-She's man who's juiced to the tits
We don't need these types of fake posts here take that to the heavies.

This weekend is a prime example of why I stepped back from sports. From basketball to MMA anyone I cared to see win pretty much got shut out this weekend. My luck is just a never ending well of constant disappointments.

Further proof that ONE’s matchmaking is beyond silly. These two just fought, just won, and have good momentum. Now, they’re using one to kill the other’s, while so many fighters sit on a shelf collecting dust. I believe this is in the U.S, too, where nobody knows them

EDIT: the link seemed to act like a turd, so here be another (if this doesnt embed either, fuck it):

No idea how legit that particular account is, but Hardy is sharing it and other such announcements on her Insta stories, so feels like booked enough.

Cool fight. Should be fun (especially if Hardy's gas tank holds up), don't want either to lose, but shall be in team JJ. Good fight, minimal leaning, etc. usual hopes.
