Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

At ufc both humdrum fights went the distance.

Stephanie Egger vs. Luana Santos. Judges scored it for Santos.

Rayanne dos Santos vs. Talita Alencar. The split decision went to Alencar. Commentators (and I) scored it for Rayanne.
I didn't agree with either judges dec.

For me Eggs came on hard r2-3 with the bigger and cleaner headshots but it was close enough I won't say that a robbery.

Amanda was robbed for sure she won r1&3.

This
Egger could have gone either way.
Alencar was a clear robbery.
She probably loses next... And i feel its gonna be against Sam Hughes.

Lemos got taken down so easily by Zhang, she has no chance of stopping Suarez’s TDs. Lemos better hope she can hit Suarez with one of her big punches that she winds up from a mile away

Trying to kill poor “Lucky” (I now believe this nickname to be given to her out of irony

Punchers chance has gotten her this far lemons might get it in Suarez not as defensively sound as Zhang.

Lauren only value is as a stepping stone for younger talent anyways, if it wasn't Karine it be vs Natalie or Casey. But I wouldn't be surprised if Lauren somehow grinds her way to win she's overcome odds more often than not.

Irene Aldana vs. Karol Rosa. Aldana
Casey O’Neill vs. Ariane Lipski. Lipski

Since that brutal drubbing from Nunes, hoping Team Grasso has got her back on track. The Lobo gym seems an all round cool place. Never give up. Come back stronger.

O'Neill is effective on the ground and the favorite. Lipski is surprisingly strong and fighting more patiently. This is a good match up. Should be an exciting fight.

I’d be more upset if I knew about her fight before earlier this week. Combate can’t promote for shit.

Alexa Grasso with three awards at the Fighters Only award show last night:

Personally, I voted for Olga Rubin by buggy choke, but apparently not everyone loves meme subs the way I do. Still, good for Alexa

LIPSKI over O'Neill: I think Lipski's previously woeful takedown defense looks improved enough to give her a good chance at winning here because I think she's a better striker. Not sold on O'Neill yet, though if she does get takedowns we may see Ariane's beautiful face rearranged for the umpteenth time... *sigh*

IRENE (bae😍) over Rosa: I was thinking that surprisingly, I'm not sure I've ever been impressed by any of Aldana's UFC performances. Sure she has multiple impressive finishes, but usually wasn't doing great leading up to those... or maybe I just hold her to too high a standard.
Anyway, Rosa seems like the perfect opponent for Irene(bae😍) to look good against. I've thought that in the past too (vs Smith, Bethe) and Aldana didn't look that good in those fights (indeed Smith steamrolled her) but Rosa doesn't bring as much pressure as those two; it turned out Aldana can't handle pressure at all (Smith in the ring with her aggressive always-come-forward brawling, and Bethe psychologically with her superstar status), Rosa is a plodding boxer without much power, often iffy cardio, small-but not nonexistant-takedown threat, easily hittable; ideal for Irene to tee off on; surely she can't mess this one up...........??

Shanelle Dyer reminds me of a hybrid between Michael Venom Page and Ian Garry. She is ridiculously talented on the feet, especially for a 22 year old with three, now four, professional fights.

I don't think it will be long before she is in the UFC and with her athleticism she definitely has a championship level ceiling (assuming her grappling holds up.....)

I'm not sold on lipski being anything but hot body here.

I do agree this is a fight for Aldana to look good in. I remember Rosa as a powerful striker with dreadfully poor boxing technique.

I'm going with lipski and aldana this week, however my devil's advocate picks this week are:
- o'neill by GNP: I can see casey's pressure and speed overwhelming lipski here. lipski's improved tdd will be tested.
- Rosa by SD: this fight is so damn interesting. skill wise they're even, but mentally or physically? hard to say. Rosa appears to be clawing back from her own Rocky P trajectory but her recent inability to throw is holding her back. she could have easily won that Dumont fight.
same goes for Irene - this is her first fight back since Nunes and that was hard to watch. Irene has bounced back from losses before and improved - but her own hesitancy is going to be her worst enemy on the night, not Karol Rosa.

(I just hope these fights are fun )

Caught 2 of the Ares fights tonight, & wow Shanelle Dyer really is something special. Absolutely loved her kicks. Zouak finally seems to have grasped what her MMA game will be. Shame it took her till 36. I thought she looked better than ever, & I’d love to see her vs Olga Rubin for the ARES 135 Lb title.

Also noticed Sabrina De Sousa made her pro debut. Montague, Favero, & Bolander have all impressed so I wasn’t surprised the woman that beat them all did as well. I hated that she fought Monika Ghag though. Not sure if it was a mistake on the broadcast but it showed Ghag at 126 & De Sousa at 136 for weights. The KO was cool though.

As for tonight, leaning Aldana & Lipski. Rosa has too little confidence & O’Neill too much which I think will be both of their undoing.

Aldana and O'Neil by dec although I would be happy with Lipski picking up the win.

Hard to pick this weekend especially as I'm always confusing Rosa and Dumont. I'll go with Aldana by split decision.

I doubt O'Neill's killer instinct but I'll take her to submit Lipski.
Dumont has the huge butt.

As for Casey, 55% finish rate is fairly indicative of a killer instinct, especially for a woman.

Been keeping an eye on Dyer, and I think she has big things coming her way next year. Now that she’s been on Fight Pass, she’s definitely on UFC’s radar. Just wish the finish was more climactic.

Agreed on Zouak, she looked seriously improved this fight, and did everything she needed to avenge the loss against Moreira. Just saw she’s actually 37. Damn.

Couple fights just posted to YouTube:

The lanky Korean girl actually had some pop to her strikes. Credit to the Japanese girl for not panicking when she got hurt, and taking her opponent down, where the Korean girl looked woefully lost.

I remember the girl who wins was a bank teller who decided to quit to become a full time fighter, which I thought was dumb, as she’s not athletic at all. At 3-4 now, she might still make it worth it. the other girl hadn’t fought since 2019 though, for some odd reason, as Road FC seemed ready to push her in a big way
