Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

This is a straight up dumb signing. Yeah, let’s sign a girl who went 1-3 in ONE, including losing to their current champ. Of her 8nwins, only three had winning records when she faced them. She must have really good management

I suppose they wanted someone from the world's fifth largest (and fast growing) economy. They sign girls based on looks so why not.

Mayra Bueno Silva’s victory over Holly Holm at UFC on ESPN 49 has been overturned to a no contest.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commissioned also suspended the bantamweight for four-and-a-half months and fined her $11,250 after Bueno Silva tested positive for ritalinic acid in relation to the bout. Bueno Silva submitted Holm with a ninja choke 38 seconds into Round 2 of their July 15 fight, which would have made the Brazilian one of the top contenders for the 135-pound title vacated by the retired Amanda Nunes earlier this year. Bueno Silva previously admitted to the NSAC that the substance was consistent with the prescription medication she takes for ADHD. However, she did not have an therapeutic-use exemption for the drug.

“I am so happy that the NSAC understood the battles of mental health I overcome daily and that with this agreement they have acknowledged I was in no way, shape or form looking for a competitive advantage with the medication I take for my illness,” Bueno Silva wrote Tuesday on Instagram. Bueno Silva will be eligible to return to active competition on Nov. 29, and she will have to submit to multiple drug tests before her next UFC appearance. The 32-year-old American Top Team product was on a four-bout winning streak within the promotion before the result of her latest triumph was changed.

Mayra must be working with jon Jones' writers, spinning her getting a ban, a fine and fight overturned means she's 100% cleared of any wrong doing.
<mma1>

she admitted to it, stated that it was for medical reasons, and copped a fine and a suspension. seems like regular process to me? <Neil01>
"with this agreement they have acknowledged I was in no way, shape or form looking for a competitive advantage"

This agreement IS a punishment they're handing out. It's a light one because she got good excuses if she had actually proved no wrong doing there'd be no punishment it's exactly how jon Jones' spun his last suspension.

Good for Jennifer Maia. I am sure she has things already set in motion. Can't say I was ever a fan but the UFC is not for everyone so she might have something lined up that is more beneficial to what she is trying to accomplish and I respect that.

Well forget everything I said in the previous post because this one says it was the UFC that chose to not re-sign her and I think it is a more reliable source.

Jennifer Maia is no longer on the UFC roster, multiple people with knowledge of the situation told MMA Fighting.

The one-time flyweight title contender completed her deal in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 81 this past Saturday at the UFC APEX, losing a decision to Viviane Araujo. The promotion opted not to re-signed the 125-pound Brazilian, who is now a free agent.

I hate social media news aggregators. They always get things wrong or leave out context.
