WMMA Discussion #29

Allycia Rodrigues mentions she's looking to fight mma too.

I got excited when I saw "the rocket". Which weirdo is this ?!?! Ok. This girl was on the first Thai national kickboxing team, has won several bjj competitions, competed in national wrestling events, and teaches karate... and it appears she's not good at any of those things. It's amazing actually.

She should also have a loss to Yang Xueying from July 2023. Some weird Asian university mma event, probably amatuer (but it was after those pro fights). The Deep clip shows footage of an amateur fight from some of those short lived tmmaf events that Noelle Grandjean and the Rose? the Rocket started in.

Paweena should have a pro win on her record, as her loss to Luknam was a mini tournament finals (and tapology has Looknam/Luknam two different girls in different sports melded as one person lol). I can't remember now, but there was some fuckery with opponent changes on that first Legend FC 1 event, and tapology went with the original names or something. I think Watsapinya Kaewkhong has a win on her profile that should be for Madaonna Rocket/Paweena. To make shit more confusing, Paweena also goes by K-Kaew.

Phetjeeja also mentioned mma after her fight. At this point, I’m convinced ONE tells them to talk about crossing over.

Good info on the Rocket girl. Seems there’s a never ending supply of them.

Freaks of Nature watch:

Tapology lists Cory McKenna and Jaqueline Amorim as both being 5'3'' (160cm) tall, however McKenna has a freakishly short reach of 58.5'' (149cm), while Amorim has a freakishly long reach of 68'' (173cm) (!).
So, Amorim will have 24cm (nearly a foot) of reach on McKenna when they fight. Too bad Jacqui isn't a striker but just a BJJ wussy so all that reach will be useless...

(I seem to remember someone here wondering if MonsterRat Ruiz had the shortest reach in the UFC (probably at her last fight where she fought Amorim), but Ruiz has a mighty 61'' reach (155cm), far more than McKenna. I couldn't find whatever post suggested that, but when searching I did find a post from @Eater of Souls saying Ruiz has 'vestigial arms'; that being so, what term is there to describe McKenna's stumps?!)

"Her arms are very T-Rexian, Joe!!!!"
Too lazy to find a pick of Goldberg.

I try not to plug my own vids/streams in this thread anymore, but last night was a really good stream with Charlie Jewett as a guest going over all the upcoming Japanese WMMA fights. Definitely worth it for Charlie's knowledge, as he's lived in Japan for years, and has gotten to know many of the fighters.

Also, thoughts on this clip from Luke Thomas?

I feel like he made some good points.

At ONE Friday Fights women's fight 115: Natalia Diachkova vs. Chellina Chirino (MT) earned the FOTN bonus.

The Russian Diachova scored a KO via a combo of vicious hooks. Prior to the KO Chirino who is from the Netherlands and survived a coma from a car crash fought gamely. It was a phone booth fight with both women going after a finish.

Diachova earned 100 k bucks and a ONE contract. She's now won four in a row.

So a loser and a winner from last week’s ONE Fight Night are booked already, one of them for the next Fight Night less than a month later. Meanwhile, most of ONE’s wmma roster stagnates…

Does he know what happened to HANAKO SAWA 😭

Cool fights at UFC, with two women receiving performance bonuses.

At bantamweight Macy Chiasson earned a $50 K bonus for submitting Pannie Kianzad. Macy attempted multiple subs then hit on an RNC four minutes into the first round. That's the same move she beat Kianzid with at their TUF 28 finale five years ago. Chiasson looked fresh after her 17 month layoff. She credited the previous KO by Irene Aldana with sharpening her determination. Thanked her team and family for her focus.

Chelsea Chandler gritted out a tough bloody decision victory over Josiane Nunes. I scored the fight for Nunes, who I thought won rounds 1 & 3 with harder shots. You may disagree. Nevertheless a close competitive fight.

At strawweight former LFA champ Jacqueline Amorim got a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus via a first-round submission of Cory McKenna. The ATT fighter forced the tap to an armbar at the 1:38 mark of the round. Went through McKenna like a knife though butter.

miss weight, win, get rewarded. It’s amazing so many try so hard to make weight when history shows that all that matters is winning.
