Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Interesting poll over at Invicta’s YouTube channel:

Interesting results. Seems nobody’s interested in DeCoursey, while Kline was a weird addition, considering the division in question is Atomweight.

Speaking of Kline, rumors are floating that her split with Invicta was not amicable. Apparently she expected a title shot, got pissed when they told her not yet, and split for CFFC. Honestly, as good as she’s looked so far, expecting a title shot at 4-0 over who she had beaten is peak GenZ entitlement. Now she’s saying she’ll take nothing less than UFC, when her opposition in CFFC has been a joke. Compare that attitude to Alexa Grasso and Irene Aldana, who initially held off on going to the UFC.

BTW, I like Kline as a fighter, I just see the hyperbole surrounding her, and think it’s ridiculous.

Also, bad news:

The UFC should sign Kline, they've signed a dozen women with worse or similar records during the last 12 months - so it's hardly a stretch.

she should still grow her hair out though

(or shave it completely off - I honestly believe she'd look good with a skinhead)

Mackenzie Dern vs Amanda Lemos.

Wow. Flawless. Absolutely flawless.

Hill vs Pinheiro is nice. The bantamweight bout is ok.

Also, Combate returns this weekend:

They got dropped by Paramount Plus, now on something called Fuse, which doesn’t even have it’s own streaming app

Really looking forward to this weekends LFA Card. Shannon Clark is not where she needs to be on a technical level.. but she’s one of the more athletic women on the regional scene right now. She’s seemingly tireless, very durable, & if she fixed her punching mechanics she’d probably hit very hard.

Dinwoodie & Chase should be really interesting. Chase has been out for 3.5 years but she’s still only 26. She has the traditional karate striking style but she’s a physical specimen & has power & overwhelming strength. Dinwoodie is 5’11” so quite large for a BW. I have seen Dinwoodie chase, which I could see Hope punishing her for. Should be fun.

Kayla is crouching in this picture I think but she does look slimmer. IMG_1179.jpeg

Let’s be real: Torres coming off pregnancy is the only chance that the overrated Brazilian chick has a chance to win here

Former road fc Atomweight champ and soon to be Rizin contender Yu Ri Shim will be on season 2 of the hit Netflix series Physical 100

Speaking of Shim, her upcoming opponent RENA has been training at Tiger MT in Phuket alongside AACC teammate Miki Motono. Rena said it was necessary to start over

I might be a bit late to the party but I just thought its interesting that Derns flaws in her wrestling that we talked about when she was back in Invicta is still what is holding her back after she climbed the rankings. I was really hoping she would have fixed it by the time she got here but sadly that was not the case.

what's with the 'Dune' tie-in? are they going to be fighting in a barren desert landscape while the EMPEROR watches over them ? that would be cool.
Combate, brought to you by The Spice

BJJers forever being unable to get takedowns to be able to do their BJJ: Many such cases.
That said, I think it's also because Dern isn't quite as insta-deadly on the ground as reputation would have (also many such cases in modern MMA with elite BJJers). She had Marina Rodriguez down for literally all of round 2, 9 mins of control time on Yan (across rounds 2 and 5) and 6 mins on Lemos (most of rds 1 and 3) but wasn't able to finish them, and all of them are strictly standup fighters; Yan was just 2 fights prior was crushed like a bug and finished on the mat by Carla Esparza, okay it might be unfair to expect Dern to live up to the standard set by the mightiest warrior EVER, but if the whole thing is supposed to be about 'I can't strike or wrestle but if I get it to the mat somehow, you're utterly instadoomed' isn't quite working out either.
