Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

She must have read all the recent posts and realised she needs to come back, in time for PFL London of course
<Oku03>

My Polish Chicka Wiktoria got the damn thin g done today:

She did pretty good but she did get punched hard in the face a lot from the second round on, the usual WMMA issue of not learning eadmooment because most opponents don't punch hard enough to make it necessary, but it did noticeably cause her to start grappling more later on I think.

They both have upside down records, so can’t feel bad for whichever loses (I like them both, though)

Ag fight is pretty reliable when it comes to breaking announcements for Brazilian fighters. They also broke Jandiroba vs Yan last week

Kind of weird to bring back Diana just to feed her to Barbosa

& at the same time they cut Knutsson and Dudakova??? (and still not that long since they kut Kanako #nevar4get #nevar4give). Just terrible, really. This is the roster mismanagement that is turning more people off the UFC lately, getting even worse.

Not that I object to bringing Diana back in principle of course 😍 but there seem to be a lot of more interesting matchups for that kinda thing eg: she could fight Shi Ming or Feng Xiacan for their deubts, or Carli Judice, or Julianna Miller, or even Ernesta Carrotskater... at least those matchups would have something interesting about them (to my eyes at least) and give either fighter a chance to prove something...

Cut is a strong word

Knutsson probably chose to not renew due to gfl promises

Dudakova was a weird cut though
Same for Diana. Wasnt she released?

'Cut' may be a kind of strong word and 'released' is akshyually the correct term but if it's choosing to not renew a 'prospect' (with a winning record!) it is sorta the same as 'cut' to me.

I wasn't surprised they 'cut' Dudakova after they matched her up with Kline - several people said that meant they were planning to axe her already and I even joked somewhere they must have said, 'oh you lost a fight? that's it, you're dead. feed her to Kline!' but I was surprised they were planning to get rid of a 'marketable' fighter so quickly in the first place. She wasn't amazing but she's only 25 (basically a child in MMA terms) with a bit of potential for improvement and there are far worse and far more boring fighters than her or Knutsson just hanging around the roster for god knows what reason (one thought that occured to me - maybe they're gonna sign a bunch of cheapo women on Dana's Cantenders slave contracts this year and are itching to cull the roster ahead of that?)

With Knuttsson I also wondered if GFL just made a bigger offer knowing her contract was up but her manager said:
In a comment on Kimuras Leila Karlsson tells Majdi Shammas, Knutsson's manager, that the UFC has chosen to release the Swedish after her last match in the organization. This is because the UFC wants to see more of her before a new match under the UFC's flag can become relevant. According to Shammas, he and Knutsson's team have a good dialogue with the UFC. He also believes that the door is open for a return to the organization in the future. (source)

This sounds like BS from the UFC to me - I don't think they actually 'want to see more of her' elsewhere and signing with GFL probably makes them less likely to want her back because pettiness (let's just hope she actually does get to fight there and they aren't just one big scam, then!).

There was a recent Danni McCormack interview (link here) mentioned above I think along with her pregnancy, with a few interesting bits relating to this kind of thing:
McCormack has never been flavour of the month with UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard - "He wants fighters in their 20s who are undefeated, have lots of finishes on their record and a big social following. I don't hit any of the criteria' - but she thought she had finally won over UFC chiefs last August.
McCormack was a last-minute replacement to face Chinese fighter Qihui Yan... 'I think I knew on the night I wasn't going to get in but everyone around me was like, 'you did it, you were not meant to win that fight, you were meant to be stopped in the first round', and I nearly stopped her twice in the last round.... but a day later we got word. He said, 'I think it was a once-off and she doesn't usually fight like this, I'll put her on a short-notice wait list but she's not going to be in the UFC'. That wait list was bullshit because every time a fighter pulled out, my management tried to get me in and they said they'd no interest... I've been ready for two years and they said no for two years and now I'm like, fuck them'.
Kind of funny too they're repeatedly trying to get Qihui Yan in who is (i) terrible and (ii) extremely unaesthetic, maybe it's the China roster thing but they already have several Chinese women and some of them are actually good so why bother? & As for not signing McCormack I always think it's weird they snubbed her when they have Bannon on the roster who is terrible, boring, and over 30. At least Knutsson and McCormack are fun strikers (and Josefine is still under 30), and you'd think they should understand 115lbs women strikers aren't gonna have a KO record like Derrick Lewis, either.

Also just for interest, about how she got into MMA/the vagaries of fate: she was a horse girl training to become a physio when,
'...I was on Tinder and I swiped a fighter who was in John's (Kavanaugh) gym, so he told me all about MMA. I didn't really know because when you're in horse racing that's all you really do... I only met him once but he told me about it and I said, 'I think I'd like to do that', because horses was about money and politics. [lol]

... Along with her husband Alan she runs the 'Relentless Martial Arts and Fitness Centre' where there is a particular emphasis on Muay Thai and K1 kickboxing, and they have already collected eight world junior championships in a gym that trains more girls than boys... 'Relentless is mine and Alan's greatest achievement...If I didn't swipe right on Tinder, we would never be in this and those kids would be doing something else, which is mad'.

Bannon shows her ass on IG on a regular basis. UFC isn’t serious about her being a contender, but they are serious about her potentially bringing eyes to the events

Loma is so much smaller. Damn. Hope her TDD is on point.
bulk-wise yes, but ariane is tiny too - she's only 5'2". they're both mainly strikers at least, with wrestling/grappling as their backup.

plus i don't think loma is gonna headbutt ariane, unless loma took up lethwei in her time off...

does she? evidence?
& UFC made Danni McCormack fight Yan Qihui with the intention of getting Yan in the UFC... were they planning to show everyone Yan Qihui's ass?
I think that's more likely a chinese Expansion... Otherwise Miao Ding would probably be in the UFC rankings

UFC pick this week: I keep flip-flopping between the two but my pick is Jas Jas by SD. I am keen to see what a fighting nerds camp has done for Mayra though :)

Bueno is at fight nerds?
Bueno by submission is a reality then. But i'm more into Bueno UD

UFC flyweight Mayra Bueno Silva moved back to Brazil to plan wife’s pregnancy

“We’re going to be moms,” Silva said, “so we’ll start the in vitro fertilization process and be close to family, close to home and out moms, because it’s a hard process for Gloria while I’m in camp. I want her to be as comfortable as possible and surrounded by love. That’s why we’re back. I love American Top Team, I love my little man ‘Parrumpa’. We had no issues, nothing like that. We only came back because we decided to become mothers."
