WMMA Discussion #28

Welcome to Asian wmma. While not super common, young girls have started fighting early for years, and when it comes to the Korean fighters, they pretty much always debut against someone much older or more experienced, usually a Japanese opponent.

I know KAREN debuted super young but this seems a bit irresponsible.

Sattlemayer (7-11) vs Polastri (9-3)

Thought this matchup was weir when I saw it, considering Sattlemayer's upside down record (really sticks out on an LFA card), and her not fighting since 2019 due to pregnancy, but according to tapology, Sattlemayer is a replacement opponent. Add in that she's local to Sao PAulo, and it makes sense.

Good luck to the sister-wife Sattlemayer

[MUAY THAI] Fairtex Fight: Road to ONE Thailand
Main Card – YouTube – 11:00pm ET / 8:00pm PT

Finals of the Road to ONE tournament here. Celest Hansen vs Lommanee, a fairly surprising result to me.

-Celest Hansen is an Australian brawler who had been fighting for like every promotion in Thailand that runs lady fights, Fairtex, ThaiFight, the Channel 8 shows, GoSport, etc. In the first bracket Celest finished Petchseenil who is the one that I thought would win the tournament, then in the semi finals beat Duangdawnoi who was the most popular fighter in the tournament (but also the smallest).

Really fun fight against Petchseenil in the first tournament bracket.

Celest fought Phayasingh in that first Fight Circus phone booth fight

-Lommanee would have easily been the favorite in the tournament several years ago. She has IFMA medals, beat Loma Looknboonme multiple times, accusations of ped use by opponents, etc. However, I actually thought she was currently pretty much washed. She lost a starring match against Momoka, and then got f'd up similarly just not being able to pull the trigger against Marie Ruumet. 30 is like granny status for a Thai lady fighter who had been fighting since childhood, so I figured she was finished & just being used as sort of a name in the tournament. Then in the first round she beat one of the favorites Nong Am Fairtex, an Aiba/IBA youth boxing champion and undefeated in the Fairtex promotion, and then won a tight fight against Gaimlapetch a young multi time Thailand national muay thai team member and IFMA youth medalist.

Some older highlights of Lommanee

------------------------------------

There's a Canada/USA version of this happening too, but participants haven't been announced yet. The PawFC matchmaker is setting that one up.

Gina Mazany 7-6 vs Elizabeth Schroder 3-2

Mizuki “NISSE” Oshiro (4-6) vs Aya Murakami (4-1)
NISSE has a single round exhibition this Sunday at DEEP Okinawa Impact (she’s native to Okinawa, and the tourism agency uses her in photos and videos, so of course they were gonna have her there). This should be NISSE’s fight on the feet, but Murakami will eventually get her down and submit her. Should be a microweight bout, if anything

Thanks for the info @thatdude21601. Good seeing there’s so much going on in SE Asia. Appreciate it when you post fights too.

Hansen has some power for her size. Quite the brawler, smiling while getting hit. Boop to the jaw and down goes Petsch.

Yeah I remember that phone booth fight. What a trip lol. Fight circus recently announced another event.

In the highlight reel Lommanees’s slicing left elbow splits her opponents’ skin open. All of a sudden they’re going where am I and what’s all this blood?

It’s great when folks share fights & highlight videos.

thanks for the reminder, that's my weekend viewing sorted :)

i'll always have a soft spot for gina and will cheer for her wherever she goes. in her last fights it looked like she'd changed her style to resemble tim elliott's, which i don't think suits her cardio. my fave gina fight is the one against rachel ostovich, they were both brawling and it was super compelling - heck i might rewatch that as well (this week's ufc card is an abysmal sausage party)

The next Weili in my opinion

Fun seeing the UFC PI people get f'd up by some random.

The footage I had seen of Xiaocan before she didn't look particularly great. Like a worse version of like Asami Nakai or Magikarp (lanky volume punchers, with poor tdd). I like that style though if she could clean up her tdd. Hopefully they match her up with Huaxiang Dong who is a decent wrestle boxer type. WLF doesn't seem to like matching up Chinese women against tough international competition the same way Kunlun did, but WLF will run Chinese prospects into each other.

Really at the moment the only Chinese female mma fighter I have much hope for is Wang Cong if she gets a win or two and then gets the Alex Pereira UFC fast-track due to having a kb win over Valentina.
