With spear/sword, pillow fists don't matter. Who'd be the ultimate gladiator?

I'm more interesting in who would be the best if none of them had arms.

There is a strong case for Artem in those circumstances.
Whoever trained in whatever Shadow Skill anime people did. The main brother and sister just kicked the shit out of each other iirc.

Speaking strictly of UFC fighters, I would say GSP for his unparalleled ability to close the distance with his opponent and withdraw without exposing himself to counterattack. His style was perfectly suited to be adapted to fencing.

Lyoto’s style would be effective at this

I always think of Barnett in these discussions. Mostly because he would love it.. And has a very high IQ with Warfare and Weapons + Strategy. All of them properly trained and such it would be different. But i think Josh could be a ruthless gladiator getting out of bed

Watching skilled strikers with not enough power to often get knock outs (specifically Strickland this time), I thought in ancient times where blades and tipped weapons were used, point fighters would be more dangerous, who would put their skills to best use?

Some that came to mind:

Jon Jones isn't known for his punching power, but long range so he could use that well.

Sean O'Malley with a very high accuracy could do some damage.

Adesanya or Dominick Cruz with high defensive ability, staying alive increases your chances no doubt.

With swords and spears, unit cohesion and mobility matter most.

KO power is related to how hard you can throw anything. People who don't hit hard, don't throw far, for example. Same would happen with a spear - jabs wouldn't be as penetrating from a pillowfister.

Obviously, the extra distance and technique would play a big role, but, at the end of the day, a spear cannoned from Francis hands could blast through your fucking armor.
This. Weapons are extra weight. Plus it also isn't about point fighting unless it fencing. Other type of weapons require strong hits to do damage. People wore armor, so light strikes won't do much damage at all. You have to go through the armor or find the weak points in the armor. Most point fighters avoid getting in close and they hit and reset. They would also need to be able to rush in and do real damage. Basically stepping into the fire. Most point fighters don't like to do that.

If they were really precise counter striking styles then that could work. They can catch them rushing in, but they would need to be precise enough to still hit the weak points and openings in the armor.

Fencing is all point fighting and that's an Olympic sport
Fencing is a great skill set. But that type of weapon wouldn't be the best to use in gladiator type combat where people wear armor and have heavy weapons. Like in GOT Arya was able to use a similar style sword but it was useless vs the trained fighters with armor and heavy weapons.

Captain America. Watch out for his spear..

Why

Jon Jones was the first one I thought of, wouldn't want to take him on in a sword fight ha ha

Paul Craig, he looks like one of those old Saxon guys with a spear

The ultimate gladiator is with no question Jones and im not a fan of him anymore.
Body almost perfect for fighting, high fight IQ, champions heart, High level allround MMA skills... imagine now giving him weapons and armor...
The man is even with rules a dirty fighter, he will do anything to win.
Jones the one man i wouldn't want to encounter in a street fight, bc i would living it blind and without balls... i dont want to imagine this guy as a gladiator.
