Wing Chun vs BJJ? Should I be worried?

they're not good at doing anything, they barely ever fight or spar, they spend their time playing patty cakes and throwing 30 punch combos in their fake fight simulations, seriously, go on youtube and watch wing chun schools trying to spar, it always devolves into two guys swinging at each other like they have no striking training at all.

And WC guys will defend their art to the death on forums. I used to belong to a different board many a year ago. A WC guy wiggled his way into being a mod, and he basically took down the board(this was 2004 or so). As back then there was still TMA vs MMA, and a lot of TMA styles were talked about. A lot of people called him out on a lot of the stupider aspects of WC, and he threw a furious fit, and ruined a perfectly good forum.

Amazing how crazy the WC guys are. They even made a video on how to defeat wrestlers, to make themselves feel better. It was pretty outrageous how bad it was.

What little I know about Wing Chun is that it does not lend itself well to sport competition or sparring. Strikes to the throat, joints, and vulnerable areas commonly targetted in self-defense (e.g. eyes, groin) make it unsuitable for use in MMA. It can be a brutal art for self-defense.

If you're talk about a sparring session, or formal match, I wouldn't worry. If it is a legitimate fight, I don't think I'd take anyone with training too lightly. Definitely get it to the ground ASAP, and be aware that he may "fight dirty" by traditional MMA standards.

All I can say is that if this somehow becomes an internet PPV thing I would gladly pay at least 2.95 to watch it. At least.

i wonder if that is an affect of it attracting mostly MA nerds.

No, if attracts nerds because it is a bullshit martial arts style. The "theory" of all the bullshit chain punchs and other shit is great for people that want a fake sense of badassery without having to actually train hard and test themselves. Than the few wing chuners that do spar look absolutely horrible.

Okay buddy I'm no Gracie nutrider, but they fought several no-holds-barred fights before BJJ became well-known. Back in the days of style vs. style they laid the smackdown on many TMAers who thought they knew a "brutal self-defense art." Wanna guess how many people executed a successful eye gouge or groin kick? In reality these "brutal" self-defense tactics are low percentage moves that don't have a proven track record, especially against...well pretty much any full-contact art with regular hard sparring.

Uh...so there.

All you kids who sit on your BJJ high horses and act like forms and Kata don't work have a cement/blacktop nap coming your way quick, ya dig?

I wonder what that gangster's street fighting record is

I would guestimate undefeated, having postured and jived his way out of around 100 fights with the bravato of an MTV gansta rapper before meeting up with the kata wielding wonder.

he's probably sandbagging you, come fight time he'll demolish you most likely with shit you thought he'd never had, and guess what, you had it coming thinking your bjj was all faby

How does one get in a situation like this? Also, please film it.

well, wing chung means shit, 300 pounds of muscle head win chun guy vs 145 pounds bjj purple belt...thats something to be worry about...

if theres take downs involve, just make sure u get one and u should be good.

make sure to do lots of feints wing chun practices set moves so hell be on defending your 2nd move basing it off of ur 1st feint and thats when u attack.
