Windows 11 thread (Windows 10 support to end in 2025): Update is now live and free

I can't think of anyone Microsoft has done in the past 20 years to improve my computer experience. I still use the start menu, still use the file menu, and have never used any of their cloud features. Every time they try to make a big change it has been a negative experience and now I have to actively work to keep them from tracking my data. Also knowing them they will probably screw around with the control panel again and make me relearn how to do everything.

Are they gonna force a free upgrade on you again, whether you want it or not?
Yeah ive not understood this shit from the start.

Back in the normal days, if something was flawed, you download a PATCH. Now, everything needs an update, even if things work.

Their data tracking is kid shit compared to Google and Apple. You can't even activate an iOS device anymore without supplying a real phone number. That's how invasive and controlling Apple is.

I should have taken advantage of that. Instead, my software stopped supporting the older OS and I had to buy a new computer.

They should be held accountable for making their shit OS that allows so many ransomware etc.

7 New Standout Features in Windows 11
  1. A new, more Mac-like interface. Windows 11 features a clean design with rounded corners, pastel shades and a centered Start menu and Taskbar.
  2. Integrated Android apps. Android apps will be coming to Windows 11 and installable from within the new Microsoft Store via the Amazon Appstore. (There were a couple of ways to access Android apps on Windows 10, including if you had a Samsung Galaxy phone, but this will make it native.)
  3. Widgets. While they've been around for a while (remember desktop gadgets on Windows Vista?), including in a recent Windows 10 update, you can now access widgets directly from the Taskbar and personalize them to see whatever you'd like.
  4. Microsoft Teams integration. Teams is getting a face-lift and will be integrated directly into the Windows 11 Taskbar, making it easier to access (and a bit more like Apple's FaceTime). You'll be able to access Teams from Windows, Mac, Android or iOS.
  5. Xbox tech for better gaming. Windows 11 will get certain features found in Xbox consoles, like Auto HDR and DirectStorage, to improve gaming on your Windows PC.
  6. Better virtual desktop support. Windows 11 will let you set up virtual desktops in a way that's more similar to MacOS, toggling between multiple desktops for personal, work, school or gaming use.
  7. Easier transition from monitor to laptop, and better multitasking. The new OS includes features called Snap Groups and Snap Layouts -- collections of the apps you're using at once that sit in the Taskbar, and can come up or be minimized at the same time for easier task switching. They also let you plug and unplug from a monitor more easily without losing where your open windows are located.

Winget is going to be great. No more having to hunt on a website for a download link.

chill on the porn
What do you think internet was invented for?

Besides, you think all those cities and utilities that got ransomed were gotten to via porn? Via phishing emails with porn subject lines/file attachments?

Ugh. A new "Mac-like" interface sounds awful. If I wanted that I'd get a Mac.

I hate how they are constantly changing the interface. No one I know likes it. No one wants to get used to a new interface. It's impossible that they dont know this yet they continue to do it.

Yes. do you think those employees work the whole 8 hours? Don't be crazy.

I nearly jumped in right away. I was going to be an early adopter, due to the native Android support, but now I'm glad I didn't. Apparently after they said they wouldn't take away the classic shell, I saw a headline a week or so ago that said they did exactly that, and they're forcing people to use the shitty Mac-inspired centralized dock UI.

So, until it's guaranteed they won't do that, looks like I have my calendar set. I'll be leaving Windows 10 sometime in 2025.

No more of that beta life for yours truly. Too old and too tired. End-of-Life OS master race.

Constantly changing the UI? The start bar goes all the way back to Windows 95.

Agreed but the UI consist of a lot more then just a start bar. Even though the start bar itself has changed.

An unreleased OS not performing as well as a stable OS that has had years of refinement.
*insert Fry shocked gif*

All other games tested showed 1:1 frames between the two OS's.

Ok. And? As I said above, Windows 11 hasn't been released yet so benchmarks are pretty much worthless at this point.
