It's not about if he's deserving or not. But from my perspective, that's what it looks like the UFC is setting up Khamzat for. Costa ranked 7, so I think it's high probability that the fight with Costa is stepping stone to fight for the belt.

Would be awesome if he did. I hope he starches Costa and Izzy wins whatever his next fight is (maybe it will be Khamzat if Izzy still doesn't have a fight scheduled). Izzy vs Khamzat would be a huge fight. Hopefully Chimaev is more active from now on regardless of what happens, he burst onto the scene talking about wanting to fight all the time and be super active and then became a guy that barely ever fights.

It's very possible since they're nearly out of contenders at MW but Dricus has already earned the next shot beating Rob, would be ridiculous if Khamzat skipped over him for beating #7.If DDP wins I'd assume there would be a rematch too.
The other issue is whether or not Khamzat can get a US visa. It would be hard to stick him in the title picture if he's only restricted to a few areas they don't hold fights often. Since the Kevin Holland fight there's only been talk of booking him in UK and now Abu Dhabi, guess time will tell on that one.

If he wastes Costa inside 1 round then theres no denying he's a good contender for next after DDP.

Costa already got fraudchecked when he came in with a 20 lb weight advantage against Marvin Vettori and got dominated lol
