Will Conor McGregor be another Erick Silva?

Both guys are athletic, explosive, and fluid, as you said TS. McGregor, to his advantage, also has great footwork (and I do mean great), very good boxing mainly with his counter-punching game (for MMA), and he is fast with heavy hands and great timing. His setups are nice too and he's very accurate with his punches (see the Brimage fight, his UFC debut). He can lead and counter but countering is definitely his forte. If an aggressive striker tries to swarm him right off the bat then he'll be face down in roughly 60 seconds or so, if not less (depends on how good their chin is).

Silva isn't as good of a striker as McGregor and the guy lacks the all around technicality that he has. McGregor's grappling is definitely coming along too and he'll have a ways to go with it but his TD's are good (and were before he entered the UFC) and his TDD is noticeably better than it was early on in his career. He'll continue to improve and dazzle, I have no doubt. Will his ACL take some pep out of his step? Possibly. We'll have to see. He's still very young yet.

McGregor kind of reminds me of Erick Silva after he choked out Brenneman. Fluid and aggressive striking with great movement and athleticism. But can McGregor actually move to the top of the division or would he be yet another flash in the pan?

for now, hes done the most w what he has - hes got the hype to a maximum level - what happens after, who knows

Yeah, even in jest this comparison is completely worthless. McGregor has the striking tekkers in addition to his considerable athleticism. Houston didn't, nor did he appear to be anywhere near the student of the game as McGregor, particularly regarding the importance of grappling.

Not likely, Mcgregor is primarily a counter fighter. An agressive counter fighter but a counter fighter nonetheless. I see contendership in his near future...Erick Silva, not so much.

I feel like a comparison to Paul Daley is better here, an exciting and promising talent that is too stupid for his own good.

Erick Silva has proven himself, Conor hasn't.

Silva is actually still a very talented fighter, he's been too arrogant though in both of his losses. I'm sure getting knocked out like he did will teach him to actually come in with a game plan.

McGregror is a much better fundamental striker. The big question mark for Conor is his TDD and ground game against top level fighters.

So....you want him to face the Dong and get the Dong Rocket all over his face?

I'm okay with that.

Blows my mind. If you find out, be sure to let me know, ok?

I get it in certain situations. DYK was relentless in with takedowns, and I understand why fighters drop their hands to get underhooks or sprawl. But for fuck sake he was throwing a punch here. It is pretty basic stuff to keep your non punching hand up to your face and keep your chin down when punching.

It's all about creating angular momentum. These guys grew up on Wand and once things start hitting the fan they start throwing bombs from the hip.
