Why would the UFC post the 319 card with a TBD co-main event?

Zhang vs Virna is a bit of a throwaway fight they kinda need to get done.

Actually wouldn't be too bad.

I'd rather they gave Van a bit of a rest before such a huge fight.
Yeah, this would have been a great card to just get Weili vs Virna out of the way.

They'll probably want some time to hype up Van vs Pantoja. Agreed on that too.

I dont see them throwing a title fight together that quickly
Get Caio vs Strickland on there. It needs to be a MW fight in case something happens to the main.
Cannonier and MVP are on the card.

Yeah I was thinking pantoja seems to be the guy always ready must be Van needing recovery. If they hadn't already proclaimed him next they could have just picked random guy again.

Maybe they'll surprise us and let Evloev just fight Volkanovski.
both are recovering from an injury I believe. It's unrealistic to expect a title fight i'm thinking

Ahh yeah, and Caio vs Imavov is booked already for the France card. I noticed this after posting.

Imagine MVP getting a MW title shot.

I'd be happy to see this but Zhang's not the type of champion to jump in last minute and she's a bigger star than Pantoja. If she fights again this year it will be in Q4 possibly Q1 2026 if they're getting her bulked for Shevchenko.

Maybe in China. UFC has had Pantoja headline 2 PPV's recently against Erceg and Asakura.

Agreed on Zhang.

They'd have to be basically be training, with just the paperwork to iron out.

Which I was thinking might be the case hence the placeholder. The TBD tells me the fight is done, it just can't be announced.

Anyway, I don't know what it will be, you're probably right to rule that one out, I just hope it's something that moves a division on in a meaningful way!

Could be a fight is already signed and they are just waiting on somebodies visa.
If they are confident enough to hold this fight in a TBD slot, why not just announce it? And if they aren't confident they can pull it off, why pick that fight?

If it's signed, why not announce it? If you're promoting your next event on your ppv would you not want to entice your potential audience with an attractive card?

Probably deciding between 2-3 different fights to make.

I think they really wanted Paddy vs Gaethje and it just didn't materialize.

So as I'm sure many of you noticed during the ppv broadcast last weekend they showed the little hype trailer for UFC 319, and with it they displayed the Co-Main as "TBD"

Strategically, purely from a marketing standpoint, what is the advantage to doing this?

The fight is in less than one month and you can't announce a co main? Let's just assume that the UFC is working on something hoping to pull through last minute, why not just call MVP Vs cannonier the ppv main event? Then if this fight they can't even announce within less than 30 days of this event falls through(probably will) at least they didn't promise it.

Wouldn't it be better to surprise people with this supposed "TBD" Co-Main event? Not knowing what it is one month before the card is stupid enough, but promising it when you can surprise people is beyond stupid.
They have not determined the co-main yet. That's why, simple Jack.

That main card is at least 1 fight short.
Another person on here mentioned that as well, and at the time I just shrugged it off, but now I get it. You guys made a good observation. Five fights for a main card is the standard, so yeah, one fight is missing. Having said that, the UFC could always just move a fight from the prelims onto the main card. They've done that before many times.

Jesus. Sherdog just needs to take over the UFC at this point. Bunch of retards think they know better than the people who created a multi billion dollar business.
It's not rocket science. DFW is the definition of right place right time. He's not special

Hard to imagine UFC ever putting Weili as a PPV headliner unless the cards in China.
You're just being silly, if Du Plessis had pulled out like Belal, she's 1000% headlines 312. They literally pulled Suarez from the Pantoja card You're talking about to make 312. UFC 300 was considered a historical event and the had her comain over Max and Justin. 301 was going to be Periera big return to Brazil, then their other 300 main fell apart and he was moved because they didn't care about 301. So the announced Pantoja comain was suddenly main event. She's comained MSG before too those are big spots they plan for her not just last minute things.

UFC has been bush league about putting together cards lately. Not sure what the change was but they are doing everything last minute. At least Pride was consistently last minute so the guys knew to be ready whenever. They need to go back how they used to book cards.
