They are very confident that the UFC brand is a bigger draw than any fighter. Very few fighters have singularly been star draws. Being a great fighter is less important than being a draw. When great fighters ask for top money, they become expendable.

It wasn't a smart move. And business's that wants to stay in business have to please the base that got them started. By tossing Rory away, and then for Rory to barely win his first fight in Bellator, speaks volumes about how close the two organizations are in talent. It really might not seem like much at all, but it has a bit more importance than the UFC gods imagine it does.

Rory felt disrespected by the UFC and saw more potential in Bellator. He had offers from the UFC but felt that Bellator was the better deal. Now he's the champ there and is making way more money.
