I think that was a tale of their last fights. Oliveira lost pretty one sidedly to Makhachev and Dariush beat Gamrot who is a top prospect. You're know for your last fight as they say.

I know it's MMA Math but poll results are a bit surprising considering how Cannonier did against Izzy and Whittaker compared to how Vettori did.

First fight when Izzy was super green lol. I'm talking about his most recent fight with Izzy where he got completely outclassed.

Time to find out if the poll results are justified... I think Cannonier takes this pretty clearly

I don’t know, Vettori is very boring and has never looked like an elite fighter. He is a mid tier MW who talks himself up to be elite.

Vettori did kicking and boxing camps in Bankgok, he trains everyday from years in the MMA discipline and he trains like it's life or death matter, but against Cannonier he showed NOTHING, zero improvements and if possible he looked worst than his last fights.

How is this even possible?

Vettori was a pretty lopsided favorite in the poll on here... For the people that picked Vettori, Why??? I didn't understand it before the fight and still don't understand it now. Sure he has an insane chin but how did you think he was going to beat Cannonier? Cannonier did much better against Izzy and Whittaker than Vettori did (excluding Vettori's 1st fight against green Izzy where he wrestled him).

On another note Cannonier looked better than ever and smashed the significant strikes record for a Middleweight fight.

Next time bet all your life saving on the guy, then say i've told you guys
And you can't make your guess around this guy did better against x than that guy

Pretty easy to understand.

Both are basically on the same level, top contenders who got outclassed by both Izzy and Whittaker. The fact it's a 5 round fights, with Vettori having the chin, cardio and offensive wrestling, gives Vettori an edge on paper.
The rest is a matter of small details, and in fight decisions.
Cannonier made great adjustment in round 2 with his stance switching, landed a big shot and capitalized a lot on it to get a shitload of damage done, It's likely that Vettori was affected enough to lose the following 3 rounds.

Cannonier is not elite anywhere either, he is just quite powerful and well rounded.
Bisping became champion with pretty much the same skillset and attributes as Vettori.
