Why was Conor Khabib's toughest opponent?

It doesn't make any sense. How on earth did a "washed" "Not even a top 10 LW" Conor return from boxing and a whirlwind of partying yet somehow

1. Win a round?

2. Achieve the highest sig strikes (51) success of any Khabib opponent? (For comparison, Poirier landed 12)

3. Get taken down just 3 times in 4 rounds? (For comparison Poirier 7 times in 3 rounds, Al Laquinta 6 times in 5 rounds, RDA 6 times in 3 rounds)

4. Make it to round 4? Only Al Laquinta lasted longer.

A performance made all the more extraordinary given how much Khabib wanted to destroy Conor more than any other opponent and how easily Khabib would later (with retirement on his mind and one foot already out of MMA) defeat Dustin and Gaethje, who he 'didn't want to hurt'

Conor's performance goes a long way to explain Khabib's post fight psychotic rage and refusal to grant Conor a deserved rematch, he was clearly stunned by Conor's performance and who could blame him?
