Why the UFC is letting jon jones hold on to HW belt

Jon Jones is a scumbag and a terrible human being. I'm not surprised he's trolling like this. You can't expect a guy that beats his wife to do the honorable thing and retire shortly after his last fight.

I think Dana is still holding onto hope that public pressure will change Jon's mind.

All of this goes back to the saga between UFC and Francis. What a clusterfuck of a situation.

Because Jones is going to defend the belt. Nothing to do with Cain, records or anything else. If Jones told them he was retiring they would have the HW title fight for his vacated belt this summer. Call it a delay or whatever but one of the things Jon said he wanted was six months training camp if he fights Tom. It would line like that if announced in June he's fighting in November.

UFC dug its own grave with this. They are afraid if they strip Jones he will go to PFL and agree to fight Francis.
Not in your wildest dreams, mate.
PFL will not pay him what he didn´t get from the UFC. For him it would be a massive step back, why should he do that? There are so many who say he is the GOAT, it would tarnish his legacy even more beating cans in the PFL than ducking Tom.
JBJ came to the HW division after ALL other HW´s he would lose to, including Frances, were gone. He would never fight Frances, he had the opportunity for years and ducked like I´ve never seen it before. And the fact he´s ducking Tom is more prove you should need. IMO he never fights a real HW again.

At best, it should be shared. It's not like Jones has publicly said that he's retired and wants to vacate the belt.
I feel like they would've played it like GSP situation where he vacates immediately and then they put Aspinall in against Gane or someone. But since this has dragged, it's probably actually a good thing, well besides everyone waiting knowing nothing.

I don't think a stagnant division is ever a good thing. Especially when we're talking about one as shallow as heavyweight.

Jones could agree to fight Francis just to stick it to UFC. PFL could not afford it, but I can see the Saudis sponsoring it to have a Baddest Man on the Planet event on their turf. Tom is a high risk fight for Jones, but the longer it goes the more Jones' wrestling and athleticism would take over.

Exactly. Dana pulled the same thing on Khabib trying everything to get him to commit to fighting again and downplaying his retirement after Gaethe, but he was always publicly clear he was retired, regardless of what Dana was spinning.

You also had GSP who despite saying he was only "taking a break" after the Hendricks fight, but he immediately vacated his belt.

With Jon, he seems to be getting off on the fan confusion, hinting one day he's retired, the next day he's waiting for a set date.

Agreed, I just mean that we wouldn't wait and stagnate the division for no reason. If we get Jones/Aspinall in November then all is good in my book.

Honestly, I don't think Tom gets tested against Gane or Almeida, who are basically the only guys he hasn't fought. He probably forces Almeida to stand and takes Gane down and wins both fights easily. Atleast Jones wrestling is probably going to force the fight wherever Jones wants, compared to Tom having an easy path.

Did you fail math or something
Let me explain the joke to you.

Fedor went 10 years undefeated. Jon is stalling so long, that the fight will take another 9.5 years to make. At that point, Jon with his 2 wins will have been undefeated longer than Fedor.

Except Jon already has gone unbeaten longer than Fedor.

Hence why I asked if if you failed math.

It is simple business...............there is no other fight that even sells a third of what Tom vs Jones does at HW. So until Tom really pushes the issue or Jones just comes out and says I'm done officially the UFC will wait until they have had enough(I think that time frame is August) and strips him and that is it.

I think it will get really interesting come mid July if we haven't heard anything. I think the UFC hopes to announce Tom vs Jones for Madison Square Gardens in Nov. during international fight week.

Thank you for making another thread on this topic. There aren't enough already.

Leaving has nothing to do with the belt, its how many fights/years he has left in his contract.

And this is exactly why they are doing it. If people weren't talking about this shit every single fucking day then UFC would see the fight has no interest, but yet it has a lot of fucking interest.
