Why james toney never fought either klitschko brother

Because he got outboxed by Sam Peter and hasn't beaten a relevant HW in forever.

Toney couldn't put together an impressive enough run of victories without losing to earn a shot.

This. I would still like to see him fight either anyways. With the kind of talent that has been thrown at the "Bitchtzko" Bros. might as well Ya know.

Too old
out of prime
and he's faded into obscurity in the boxing world

Toney circa 2003-2005 would have been fun, even with the crazy size difference. But Toney shot himself in the foot with the steroid suspension which annulled his impressive title winning fight against Ruiz.

After that, he only got fatter and older. The second Peter loss and his second positive steroid test in 2007 basically ended his career as a top 10 heavyweight.

wlad offered james toney a fight right after he defeated byrd, james turned it down james figure sam peter would be an easy win it didnt work out that way and the klitchkos never offered him a fight again after that

Toney is too skilled for them. They won't fight him because he is extremely high risk, low reward. Basically they get no credit for beating him.. and there is a good chance toney will embarass them like he did holyfield, who was much faster than the klits.

They didnt want to fight him because he was to good a match up

They were both scarred sh1tless of him as he would have b1tch slapped the both of them in the same night.

That's probably Toney's version, i think the real reason is that he was not ranked high enough. If he had beaten Peter he probably would have go the fight, but after the losses he kind of dropped pretty fast from the lime light. Its a shame really if he had won the first fight, i do really believed he would of got battered by either of them, but he would of been as funny as hell for the build up.

Would have been an absolute masacre of a match a fat lazy fighter with his only defence being his detoriated reflexes and a shoulder role. His short arse would of got pummelled by either of the klits at long range

This

How about beating a top 10 HW, before demanding a title shot?

Like Audley Harrison and Shannon Briggs have done? And like Rahman did...oh wait...he went immediately from a gifted NC against James (was going to be KO'd) into a fight w/ Wlad. He earned his shot, I guess. Fres Oquendo is better than anyone Audley or Shannon have beaten as of late.

Probably because Toney is the only person who takes himself seriously. Losing 2 times to Peter and the roid scandal along with not fighting more often sank his chances.

Speaking as a non-boxing fan (I've been to one event live, Tye Fields at the River Cree Resort and Casino, and only watched part of a boxing match with my grandpa on TV) I think it's because they are ranked #1 and #2 as heavyweights and he's somewhere around #50 in the world.

you sir , are an idiot.

To the TS i'll say its a combination of two main factors , from either end.

If you're Wlad, fighting Toney is a risk. He's that good that he can beat you and/or make you look real bad. A real difficult fight not a gimme like his usual 'Bum-of-the-Month' fight. However Toney's not that big of a name to the casual fan to put the belt on the line. If you're gonna lose it you wanna lose it to someone big and/or get paid. That keeps future fights at a high level. If you beat him....so what you beat a fat, old, lazy, roid user has been.
We also know that ES is very carefull on who he picks and when. He takes care of his fighters. Wlad's monotonous (yet effective) style might match up horribly against Toney's unique/pure ol school boxing roll-n-counter.
Kinda like why ppl like BHop,Winky,Mike McCallum never/rarely got their shot at the big time.

If you're Toney , you gotta remember ....these guys are HUGE ! Massive height AND weight difference. Its not fair to expect a fat 230lbs Toney (really a CW/LW) to fight these SHWT.
Size IS a great evener of skill , no matter what these Kung Fu bullshitters tell you.

Toney fighting either klitschko brother would have been interesting but i don't think he's got enough power to hurt either of them. It's a shame it didn't happen after sam peter failed to do anything against them there has been no hope.

I'd lay money down on Toney over Brock before I'd lay money down on him beating either of the Klitschkos.

Do you think that for the match up is really that bad for Wlad? I believe he wins the decision 118-110 or something like that because actually stylisticly speaking i like Wlad in this matchup. Toney is a counter puncher and Wlad's style is very safe (to the point of being unbearable to watch at times). He doesn't over extend himself offensively to be countered easily and Toney would have a hard time hurting because of the size difference u mentioned.

Good points.
I see the fight playing out pretty much how you described.
