Why isn't Silva vs Cormier a title fight?

The fight takes place at 205 right? Is it because of such short notice? What's the limit on notice for it to be a title fight? Bisping was awarded a title shot on short notice.

Because Silva didn't want it to be. He only wanted 3 rounds.

Cuz Luke thought him a valuable lesson (how to lose the title on short notice)

Possible... especially knowing that even if he won he'd probably need to defend against JJ at some point (or, barring that, Rumble).

This is the MUCH more likely answer.

The double negatives...oh, the double negatives!

Dillashaw defended his belt against joe soto on 24 hours notice

Because it is a 3 round fight and Silva did not want it to be a title fight

if DC loses this pretty much means AS beat champion at his own weight, isn't it a legit win ? Fight should have been for the belt. AS wanted the fight, hence he should be ready for 5 rounds, not 3

There's no need for an opinion or guess it was literally stated that it's because Silva wants it to be for 3 rounds, he's not prepared for 5. Dana White even said half jokingly that they would have made it for 2 rounds if that's what he wanted for bailing them out.

Gotcha. Hadn't seen any of that.

When Anderson wins he will be the 205 champion. Well at least as much as DC is.

It's just because Anderson isn't confident to go three rounds against a bigger man on such short notice and title shots need to be five. Honestly surprised this is a question.

Because Silva isn't anywhere near being in title contention.

Sorry if this was appropriately responded to before but what the fuck mate? Are you seriously asking why a 185er unranked at 205 isn't given a title shot - and you're justifying the question by citing the example of an actually rank-appropriate substitution in another title fight (Bisping was the next in rank of the available fighters to challenge Outcold)? This white belt shot man...

Fucking hell...

I'm glad it's not. There is no reason Silva should get a shot at the LHW belt. If they wanted a last minute title fight they'd have to find a top 5 LHW who was close enough to weight to make it. But then that guy might not want to ruin a title shot if he's not prepared.

The UFC did the best they good at this point IMO. It's just a "fun fight" for the fans. I think Anderson is gonna get absolutely destroyed though. He couldn't put away Weidman, Diaz, or Bisping. Cormier got BLASTED by Rumble and hung in there.
