Because her punches, which normally inflict a lot of damage, were having very little affect. After landing a punch Maia would come forward and throw something hard. That can be very discouraging. I have to give her credit for her throws. Combination of technique and strength.

Remember folks, there were people who unironically thought Valentina had a chance against Cejudo in a fight.

Anyone that knows anything about sports knows that women cannot compete with men. Cejudo would absolutely destroy any woman on this planet at any weight without any effort. Anybody who thinks any different has probably never played any sports at a high level before.

She's not even top 500 p4p because she fights soccer moms and is actually struggling badly against one right now

Val sort of explained in the long post-fight interview. Said that after her mcl surgery, she wanted to test her cardio.

It sounds like "sore winner". I didn't knock her out, because I wanted to test my cardio. Training sessions are for that.
