What's the deal with her gameplan tonight?

Instead of forcing Maia to take her down, she's going after Maia in a grappling exchange instead of standing up with her.
She's playing into her opponent's strengths.

Dumb game plan folks!

Can you imagine Anderson Silva avoiding the stand up exchange and trying to wrestle his opponents?

She's trying to show she can live in Maia's world instead of dominating in hers.

Not very High IQ, but she seems to be turning the corner after the 2nd round. She's throwing heat now in the 3rd, I think she doesn't like that she dropped the 2nd round getting outmuscled.

im not sure,

but im not surprised Demian won that 2nd round.

My guess is that she wants to be first on the grappling exchanges. If Valentina only tries to strike, she has to be worried about potential takedowns from Maia.

Probably because it's won her 3/4 rounds so far

My guess is after Maia clinched her against the fence and she couldn't do much about it, she feels that if she can be in top position on the ground, that's her clearest pathway to winning rounds.

Because Maia is strong with pressure, very strong, and can put her against the clinch. She wants to wear her out, get her shoulders heavy, and dominate with top position. It's the safest route to victory, and it is working.

She's fighting the smart fight, she's won 3/4 rounds, convincingly.
