Opinion Why Is There No Maximum Age Limit for U.S. Presidents?

democrats were saying "will of the people" when biden was around, voting is what prevents this..... democracy.

comparing trump to biden is clearly a reach, people age differently, biden has been pudding for a long time, and he was the most popular president ever voted on, how can that be denied?

Because people only REALLY care when its something they can criticize their political opponents over. Joe Biden could perhaps be a turning point in that way of thinking.
At least Joe Biden didn't recommend injecting disinfectant into human beings.

Older people have a lot of experience and more political and social connections. Politicians and especially presidents are decision makers, and perform a role where there physical aptitude isn't a factor, and the wisdom from experience is far more important.

Plus everyone ages different. Warren Buffet worked till he was 94. I don't think anyone who worked for him or with him the last 20 years would have wanted anything different.
Lots of old timers at Berkshire. His best bud Charlie Munger was still going at 99. He's even had some operating managers still working at 104. Rose Blumkin from Nebraska Furniture Mart.

He was not the most popular president voted on by %. He got the most votes because the United States population has grown so much. We have 100 million more people than when Reagan was president. Also, many people were simply voting against Trump.

I know this has been explained to you at least 1000 times by now.

Also, every accusation is a confession.

If you can watch Trump's "Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV" speech and think he's cognitively there, you're a smooth brainlet.

Guys today look like kids in their 30's and sometimes even 40's. Could you imagine someone like this representing your country(even if the hypotheical minumum age was 35?).

Ive been saying for the past 4 years there should be a 65 yr maximum to run for president.

There probably should be. And terms for other congressmen who have been there for decades.

Holy shit. I reread that twice. Two very close urban dictionary names back to back. Munger, being someone who has been munging before - and Blumkin, aka the blumpkin. Thought you were excelling in your joke skills until I looked up the names. Left thread with disappoint.

Have you tried not voting for them?
Im too young to vote for so old people,i think only wiser older people should have their votes counted as a valid vote when seniors are candidates . What do we know, younger people ,we can only go to war if seniors decide so :)

It's only really a problem if the government/media are actively trying to cover up the decline in mental faculties.

I've been wondering about the logic behind allowing individuals of advanced age to run for and hold the office of President of the United States. In many professions, people retire at 65 due to concerns around energy levels, cognitive sharpness, and the natural limitations that come with aging. Yet, when it comes to the presidency — one of the most demanding and high-responsibility roles in the world — there is no maximum age limit.

We currently see candidates and officeholders like Joe Biden and Donald Trump, both well into their 70s and 80s, still actively campaigning or serving. How is this considered acceptable from a practical standpoint? Shouldn’t there be some form of upper age limit or at least cognitive and physical assessments to ensure they’re still fit to lead?

I’m not trying to be ageist, but considering the critical decisions a president must make — involving national security, international diplomacy, and emergency response — shouldn’t there be more scrutiny around this? What are the arguments for and against setting an upper age limit for presidential candidates?
None of these had anything to do with why retirement ages were created. Otherwise, sure, it's a worthwhile consideration to set an age limit for the President.

This, in most societies, the elderly are considered wise and are often sought for their counsel

If there is a lower age limit for a president then I think it's logical that there's also an upper age limit for a president.

Sure but that's usually in an advisory context. Asking old people for advice isn't the same as expecting a pensioner to do one of the most difficult and stressful jobs in the world where they make life and death decisions on a daily basis.

Well it's all about the person and their cognitive function and health. A Warren Buffet vs Biden Vs Bruce Willis ect..

Should we have a 100 year old in the office ? No.

maybe cap it at 80 ? I was wanted to make the point because some is "old" it shouldn't be a knock on them.

Maybe that the term has to end by 80 at the latest? I don't think you want a dude starting a term at 80.

I think I'd go 70 tops though.
