Why is the UFC so heavy on small athletes nowadays ?

155 after weight cut is a pretty big person already. 170-190 pounds. Thats a very much majority of the population or even little bit heavier. The talent pools of heavier weights in mma just arent there because the pay is shit. Thats why these freaks who naturally weigh more than this much would rather do something else where the pay is better. Its an opportunity not a career.

They need to fill the cards. There aren't many HWs on the roster. Within the top 25 ranked HWs in the world. The UFC probably has 12 of them. There are also some HWs that aren't real HWs fighting in other orgs with less testing. Testing hurts the HW division the most.
True about HW. It's well known. Most big athletic man go to sports where there are no weight classes and that are lucrative for XXL athletes.

I'd like some more LHW MW WW HW. LW is very healthy and the biggest division, so basically WW to HW.

Perhaps it's a shortage of talent and the UFC is mass putting out cards. But they don't make the effort to sing all aviable talent. I mean I still can watch the other talent in other places.

But the shifts towards sub 155 is really extreme.

They are cheaper and they need to fill all the shit cards that we’ve had the last years.
That's the problem. I am excited for Sean, Yan especially, Cory, Merab, Umar , Aljo, prime Moares was fun too, but not watching 300 random 125/135ers yearly. No thank you.

If feels like the cards are ultra watered down. Extremely filled with anything to just press out content.

Islam rehydrated to 178. It only counts at how much he weighs when he fights, not when he is on vacation eating Tiramisu.

Right, I understand

But I bet you he kept gaining for the next 24-48hrs after the fight, at a slower pace but his body was still recovering at 178lbs on fight-night

No 155er is 190lbs after rehydrating

At the end of the day it's my own problem. If others don't mind it's gonna stay that way. It's all subjective and "taste". I just grew up on K1 Max 70kg and K1 unlimited kilos, Pride and UFC which were 155 to HW.

UFC turned into boxing and Muay Thai with these 135 125 spam cards.

If you guys like it awesome for you. I thought it was better before.

Cards with only 155 and up were so awesome.

To each their own.

Thread is done I guess. Got my answers.

I'm not a weight snob I'm a huge K1 Max fan which is lightweight, Buakaw is one of my fight idols. But had to call that guy a midget for calling HWs fat. He called me fat so I called him a midget.

They still can sign more WW MW LHW HW. There is tons of LWs already.

Is Micheal really natty ? What did his friend Rampage mean by "If you sit in a glass house you shouldn't throw stones" in regards to Michaels peds criticism.

I think Mic just used less peds ?

Isn't ripped but why is his cardio so excelent. Not all users are ripped.

I lean towards him being natty or taking minimal stuff compared to the TRT era guys. It's why he had his successful run at that point of time. I don't think it was a coincidence.

WW got a little better but MW+ has been crap after USADA came in. The weight classes didn't recover for some reason. MMA is a gruelling sport training wise so I think bigger men need higher dosages to excel like the smaller guys.

He said he rehydrated to 178 or 179 ? So that is in Cage weight ? His walk around weight the next day might be 183 I don't know. I mean he should be fully hydrated inside the fight. I don't think he is suffering from 5 pounds water loss while fighting for a title. Walk around weight is different than fight weight. I mean LWs are pretty average sized guys. I was talking bout getting spammed with 135 125 fights. Even 145. I respect those guys, but the UFC is really spamming. I am a bit of a Petr Yan fan also. Merabs work ethic and mental strength is also inspiring.

Edit : I'll watch 105 pounds too I don't care, kids Muay Thai fights. Bjj fights in One FC. Anything. But I don't want half of UFC content to be 125 135 145 and WMMA. I just like the power and damage of higher weights too much. I can not relate as much to 135.

Nobody noticed it changed ?

Maybe they fighter cheaper

And UFC like that aspect

It´s like every second fight is bellow 155. Add WMMA.

I liked when it was 155 and above.

145 is a legit good division.

But 135 125 then WMMA.

You end up having 50% of all fights being contested by small people. It´s annyoing.

WMMA itself is fine with me, I enjoy it. Though there are no new stars at all. It used to be stacked.

I would like to abandon 125 135 or just cut 70% of those rosters so if you really want to have light guys have only the best.

Like sign more MW LHs HWs.

My inapropriate theory is that Sean Selby likes to feel big and see guys at the weigh ins that don´t shrink him.

You really think people will go nuts for some 125ers like they would for Brock Lesnar ? C´mon guys.

Of course this is how I feel Individually.

UFC really is spamming light athletes on cards.

I just like the damage of MW, the speed of WW, the brutality of LHW, the massive knock outs and power of HW. LW always has delivered too and is full of stars. They are called light weight but are normal slim size people who can mop the floor with regular folk and look the part. Basically 180 pound walk around.

I do not care so much to see cards full of tiny people who look disproportionate. 145 should be small enough. If you can´t bulk up to 145, aren´t you only 3% of the population. Guess being from Europe I am used to bigger athletes and people. I don´t wanna see 50% of the sport be below LW. 30% of cards for WMMA and 145 135 125 is fine with me. But not whole cards where 90% of fighters are under LW like that Sphere event.

That´s why mma was better, it was bigger. Tiny guys don´t impress or intimidate me. I will watch Sean, Aljo, Petr Yan and Cory. I do not want to see a card full of random 5´4 125 guys who are smaller than school kids in my home town. I honestly am not excited by it.

We used to have cards full of Anderson Silva, GSP, Belfort, Rumble, Cain, Ronda, Marquart, Maia ect all big powerful people with huge damage. Now I gotta sit trough an hour of some feather stuff weight.

If someone is short but makes 145 it´s fine. 135 125 are so niche to me. If you wanna keep it, just reduce it heavily and sign more higher and mid range weight class athlete.

I can´t be the only person feeling this.
Average human being is a fw or LW size wise

I'm just having more fun watching Sergei Kharitonov the russian giant brutally soccer kick some random japanese guy than another 135er fight another 135 I never heard of or don't care to learn who they all are swing technically for the fances in a high pace looking like my 14 years old cousin. Lol. Just like some people say HWs are fat slow gassed and suck. Sometimes it's very true. Something is just interesting bout HW for me. I'm just impressed by it.

WW used to be my fav division. GSP era. And HW.

Are you one of these idiots who thinks you can beat up professional fighters, due to their size? Saying these guys don't intimidate you is super weird. That's just me though.

Maybe I can who knows ? How much do I get to train. My grappling is extremely lacking. Do I get 4 months to go vs a 125er ?

And it's not due to their size alone. I have some skills also. I'm ready can you get me a UFC 125er to beat up ? If they beat me up, I respect it. Small guys will beat you up too. It's normal.

Why do you think no single person on the internet is ever good at sport ?

Really ? Show proof. Thing is I'm from Europe, the UFC is in the USA. I think the average european and american weighs like 200 pounds honestly. No joke. If you ad in Asia the average goes down a lot.

Yeah but that's 200 of fat fuck. Not 200 pounds of athlete

Average world height is 5'7" an athletic male at that height would most likely be a bw, fw or LW.a UFC is not a American organisation in the sense that their average athlete is from there, only one champ is American.

More "proof" is how hw and lhw are shallow and lack fighters
