Why is Snoop Dogg famous?

People forget how big he was when he first came on the scene. He was arguably the best rapper on the planet. Definitely the best gangster rapper. His first album is one of the best all time rap albums. He made every song he did a guest verse on, a hit. Dr Dre is awesome at everything except rapping. He was lucky to have Snoop featured on so many of his songs on the Chronic album (13 of the 16 tracks). 13 OF 16! Just think about that. That was basically a duo album that Dre got credit for.

He continued his fame because he was able to reinvent himself to the mainstream. He left the gangster lifestyle just when gangster rap was losing steam and pop music was making a come back. He went from being the crip from Long Beach indicted for murder to being the non threatening black guy who was working with kids. He still has his street cred but can do stuff like go on the Martha Stewart Show. He was even doing Bollywood songs.

Basically he changed with the times and made no enemies along the way.

guy So - why is he on my screen sitting next to Faber? Faber can fight. Trained hard, I got no problem listening to his commentary cause I know he is a specialist when it comes to MMA. But if smoking weed and smoking your last brain cells out is your expertise, then I am not interested about your commentary, Snoop Dogg.
How many fights does this guy have?

He's a gimmick created by a team of marketers.
Almost all those guys were. Ice cube, who was the farthest thing from street you could get, wrote a lot of dre's stuff. Dre's image was fabricated as fuck.
Only "real" dude from that whole group was eazy iirc

Was never a fan of his rapping tbh, too laid back sounding I was always into more aggressive sounding guys like cube.
Yeah, I am very much the same way. I like it to be aggressive, just like Ice Cube, and NWA were. But I do like a lot of Snoop Dogg songs too, especially Gin & Juice. I know exactly what you mean by it being too laid back though.

I was thinking about this after seeing him mock Cormier. Snoop had a decent album 24 years ago and has done nothing relevant since then. It's pretty amazing he's still famous now.

Maybe later in Snoop's career he exaggerated his gangster past but before he hooked up with Dr Dre, Snoop was a real crip in a real gang, the Rollin' 20 Crips.

Snoop > any of the cans rapping today

Who cares, bud?

:eek::eek::eek::eek: has more money than you'll ever see. Must have done something right.

Good marketing. Besides his obvious music from the 90s I think what helped keep up his popularity is his acting and partake in various movies which also swayed towards a comedic role. It's not to the extent of Ice Cube now being an actor, but enough. It really has changed the way people view him, which is a big difference from his thug life days.

Young Snoop was best Snoop. This one alone ruins anything out today-

He's very charismatic and likeable, and has some huge hit songs from the last twenty years he can bring out on tour to keep his name out there. Kind of a remarkable success story, he's completely refused to fade away for 25 years, even as his work has declined.

Because he's a legendary emcee. Spit bars like this. What a dumb poster OP is.

Well people liked Slick Rick, right?

Snoop was the gangster version of Slick Rick, rapping over Dr Dre G Funk beats instead of beat boxing.

Fucking irresistible.

Warren G as well and another Dogg, look at how long Nate Dogg stayed relevant till his death.

People love rappers with smooth consistent deliveries, as much as spitters.

80s and 90s rap shit all over the crap that's out today.

He got with a prime Dre and made a classic. His murder charge helped his career.

Never been a stoner either, probs why I never connected with him.
