Why is kickboxing more accepted then Muay Thai rules?

Glory is fine as it is.
Elbows end fights because of cuts, too much blood is never good for the wide audience.
Besides, clinching is boring to watch for the average person and slows down the fights. It's ok when the fight is 5 round, but when you have limited TV time you can't afford that.

What's wrong with having Kickboxing and Muay Thai on the side as it is?

Western refs are too lenient that's why a cut could end the fight early. Also if the clinch is active and nthe fighters are throwing strong knees then I reckon it should continue.

Glory should allow sweeps though

absolutely nothing

they both exist and can both exist but muay thai in it's traditional thai form is way less suitable than kickboxing.....I guess some mt fans can't accept it

I don't get it though......they also say at the same time that there are a shitload of fights in thailand every week\midweek.......enough fights to view

why compare it to kickboxing?

A ref is a nobody compared to a doctor on this matter......a docter decides wether a cut is too severe or not. I'm glad that the fights don't continue like they do in some other sports.....who wants their hero's covered in scars and taking risks every fight

if a docter wants to protect the fighter.....he should

I'm saying that because in Thailand you see fighters with big cuts coming back to win fights. But yeah the doctor should make sure the fighters safety us first

yes well it makes you wonder why alot of these fighters are washed up so quickly......losing alot of blood due to a big gash and still taking shots to the head isn't very good for your brain

loss of blood weakens ya, let alone the fight itself

Fights get stopped by cut in Thailand too. It's not the fact that they're bleeding that stops the fight, it's where they are bleeding and whether it is effecting their vision or not. Same in MMA, Boxing, Kickboxing, etc...

no not entirely true

I just saw a fight in thailand the mt topic that was stopped due to a cut, that much is true

but in western countries a cut can also be stopped if it's not drupping into the eyes.......if a cut is really big and can't be stopped from bleeding some doctors will stop it (some won't)

I agree with that......if a cut drips in the eyes it's a no brainer because a fighter needs to be able to see to defend himself

but if the cut does not drip blood in the eyes but is still a huge cut.......I find it justifiable to protect the fighter

Why is everyone bringing up Thailand Muay Thai?

TS is talking about a more westernized version, and everyone is replying with typical reasons why people don't like to watch a fight in THAILAND. You don't have to have the music, Wai Kru etc... for it to be Muay Thai.

Take out the music, Wai Kru, scoring, bring in good fighters and a Muay Thai show on Spike would pull the same ratings as Glory.

Ya there are plenty of Muay Thai already out there that is designed for mass appeal. Stadiums are for the hardcores. If you want something more accessible there is Lion Fight already happening in the US, and Max Muaythai and Thai Fight in Thailand. Also, Top King's future tournament fits this bill as well.

Anyone know more about those Thai Fight gloves?

I looked into it and they are not gloves. Do a search for Thai Fights "No Gloves" they actually did no gloves and no ref fights. Looks like they are just hand wraps which is brutal.

I think basically all you'd have to do is take Glory, allow elbows and sweeps and that's about it. I could also see using gloves like the Hayabusa Ikusa hybrids in place of boxing gloves.

Actually, the boxing gloves are a nice touch, and yep, the Hayabusa gloves are more comfortable for punching than most Windy, Twins and Top Kings anyway. That's why I use them for Muay Thai instead of my old Windy's :) Really hated them, your hand position isn't remotely close to a closed fist in them.

They have light padding under the wraps, and they always use refs in Thai Fight.

The real Kard Kreuk event happens once a year between Thailand and Burma and always delivers some entertaining violence.

You're mixing up Thai Fight's Kaad Chuek events with muay kaad chuek events at the Thai-Myanmar border and Myanmar lethwei fights.
Thai Fight uses cotton knuckle guards (like they use in knockdown karate) under rope. Border fights and Myanmar boxing use handwraps only.
ALL these events have referees. And while we're at it dispelling myths, Tong Po is just a movie character. :P

That's your opinion. Hayabusa's are terrible gloves for Muay Thai because they suck for clinching and parrying, and have very inconsistent workmanship for an inflated price.

Thags my bad on the no refs, whe I did the search one of the returns said that. So which is Yodasenklai using in the popular "no gloves" Thai Fights video? Just wraps or something else?
