Rock star charisma and just so goddamned funny, I can't even begin to tell you half of why he's so goddamned funny to me. Watch the buckwheat assasination skit where he doubles as the killer and he does the perp walk, they ask "did you kill buckwheat?" he says, "sure" then gets shot and says, "ow, I been shot" in the goofiest way possible. Just brilliant!

Eddie had a great 8 year run - 2 all time epic stand up shows and 5 legendary 80s movies ( BHC, 48hrs, Trading places, C2A, Golden Child) . Dude was one of the 80s entertainment kings . He fell off a cliff and I guess became a bitter asshole.

Weird take...you either don't know Eddie Murphy's career, or trying to downplay that he had Boomerang, Life, Dr. Doolittle, The Nutty Professor, handful of other 90s movies, Shrek in the 2000s and a Oscar nomination for Dreamgirls in 2006 as well. The "he fell off a cliff" line doesn't really hold up.

I don't understand why people don't get it. It wasn't the joke that pissed him off, it was more so where/who it was coming from. Eddie didn't expect SNL of all groups to clown him. A lot of ex-SNL castmates had falls from grace, but they didn't get clowned about it. Considering what Eddie did for SNL at the time he did it, that was personal for him.

that reminds me, I read a thread on a gossip forum years ago by some disgruntled friend/ex-employee of Eddie's. Spilled all the beans and sounded accurate as hell. Didn't sound like an idyllic existence. He said Eddie didn't allow any cell phones around or have any internet accessible, sounded paranoid. He smoked weed some and was seen drinking only once when he got really "swishy" and vogued in the bowling alley. Ate only ate hamburgers and drank coke. Had problems with depression and wouldn't get out of bed for days "somethings mentally wrong". But the funniest part was when the guy said, "he's crazy, he gets angry at everything, he gets angry if you laugh too hard at his jokes" and then he said Eddie's mansion was, "draculas' castle and dat N is da count". Funny as hell, I wished I'd saved it because I believe Eddie had it scrubbed.

I remember reading about other black comedians coming over to his house and how cool Eddie was and laid back and super hilarious he is.

Now him picking up a tranny hooker and hooking up with many women including having a baby with the self proclaimed nymphomaniac Scary Spice from the spice girls. I'm sure he has a lot of skeletons in his closet. It's inexplicable how a guy who is so talented would just stop cold on doing stand up and hasn't been the lead in a successful movie in years. He was suppose to do a stand up for Net Flix and he did his Cosby impression at that award show... it's just bizarre that he hasn't leaned fully into it.
