that reminds me, I read a thread on a gossip forum years ago by some disgruntled friend/ex-employee of Eddie's. Spilled all the beans and sounded accurate as hell. Didn't sound like an idyllic existence. He said Eddie didn't allow any cell phones around or have any internet accessible, sounded paranoid. He smoked weed some and was seen drinking only once when he got really "swishy" and vogued in the bowling alley. Ate only ate hamburgers and drank coke. Had problems with depression and wouldn't get out of bed for days "somethings mentally wrong". But the funniest part was when the guy said, "he's crazy, he gets angry at everything, he gets angry if you laugh too hard at his jokes" and then he said Eddie's mansion was, "draculas' castle and dat N is da count". Funny as hell, I wished I'd saved it because I believe Eddie had it scrubbed.Yeah he's a psycho. Others have commented on it as well.
The Prince thing has been talked about by so many people and I don't even know if it's true. Richard Marx has a story about that where he was going to call Prince on this when his staff was instructed not to look at him, Prince caught him totally offguard by being so open and friendly with Marx that he just was left befuddled. I always say, we don't know how much of the crap we even here is really because of the star themselves or the sycophants and behind the scenes workers behind them orchestrating this nutty type of shit. Prince in the 80's and 90's sounded like he was paranoid or even delusional at times, again, I don't know where some of these stories started but in the 80's, there was a rumor that he demanded people call him messiah. It's a crazy lifestyle and fame isn't something human beings are equipped to deal with.He seems very sensitive, pretty fucked up on his part to essentially make David Spade beg to be friends when it was a joke that the show came up with. That's most of the big stars in Hollywood though, they put themselves on a pedestal and expect others to suck up and beg to be able to speak with them, it's insanely pathetic. I remember getting a job as concert security forever ago and one of the instructors was talking about being around Prince, and how he "didn't allow" people he didn't know to look him in the eyes, and that's next level dumb fuck behavior lol. Like he's a great musician, but acting like that is so fucking stupid, like he's a literal god/other wordly being and better than everyone else.
But like what was said, after Eddie was busted being with a trans woman, he seemed like became more reclusive and more complain-ey.
I don’t care. It’s stupid.you must be young, that was his trademark in the 80's, he doesn't do it anymore.
that's fine but that was what helped him make his name.I don’t care. It’s stupid.
He should start doin it againyou must be young, that was his trademark in the 80's, he doesn't do it anymore.
What a shit selection of movies huhI think that was a little after the SNL bit but it was close to around the same time.
As I said, generally, comedians are at each other's throats, just out of insecurity really. From everything I know, Eddie is hypersensitive even for normally hypersensitive comedians. I once read that he fell out with Arsenio Hall because Hall grilled him about voting on his show. Who knows if that's true but I wouldn't doubt it. He and Eddie were also rumored to be lovers.
Eddie's movies in the 90's weren't as bad as the critics said, Boomerang was funny and I believe it was a hit, I think Vampire From Brooklyn was a flop and that along with films like Distinguished Gentleman just turned the critics against him but his flops were never so bad that they never stopped throwing money at him. Bowfinger was good and of course the Nutty Professor movies were hits. He just wasn't the fresh face anymore and when that happens, people really get their licks in.
I liked a lot of those movies in the 90's, I even liked Norbit, I just love Eddie so I'm not unbiased. Nutty Professor was a huge hit, Boomerang did ok at the box office and I think the distinguished gentleman did ok but the critics roasted him in those years, up until the Professor which the critics loved. I loved Life, Bowfinger, what was that silly movie where he was bald? Holy Man or somesuch. Vampire in Brooklyn is one of the few I never saw and heard it was bad. What a shit selection of movies huh
Feel like so much potential was wasted looking at that list He says he regrets turning down the Jackie Chan movies I don’t really regret Tucker doing them instead. Sounds like he was genuinely horrible picking movies for himself Too much of a narcissist
Where you from? hate to say it but you're right. Celebrity culture needs to go. In the old days, they say actors and musicians were part of an underclass.A Hollywood actor is sensitive ? Who’d have thunk? Never understood you Americans and your worship of celebs.
He absolutely did, people who didn't live through that era, with his triple threat of TV, Standup and Movies cannot understand what a force he was. Rock star charisma and just so goddamned funny, I can't even begin to tell you half of why he's so goddamned funny to me. Watch the buckwheat assasination skit where he doubles as the killer and he does the perp walk, they ask "did you kill buckwheat?" he says, "sure" then gets shot and says, "ow, I been shot" in the goofiest way possible. Just brilliant!I have no idea about the feud, or care much about it, but can imagine Murphy being upset about being attacked by a later member of SNL. I can remember mentions that Eddie Murphy saved SNL back in the day. there was talk of it being canceled but Murphy was so popular that he saved the show.

I think the worship is the worst for the celebrity, fame has killed and warped so many great talents. We kill them with kindness and attention. The loss of privacy, the inability to have any foibles that don't get magnified 100 fold. It kills people.
can't disagree. Many of them end up doing things to hurt themselves if not others with the resources and lack of accountability we provide for them.I’m a Brit but originally from Kurdistan.
It’s an unhealthy obsession of wanting to witness the rise and fall of famous people. I never understood it.
Perfectly put.can't disagree. Many of them end up doing things to hurt themselves if not others with the resources and lack of accountability we provide for them.
It's only after losing so many of the guys from my youth that I see the folly of it all. I'd rather they still be here and be a little more human rather than the gods they felt they had to be. It's honestly very sad under the surface because truth be told, there is divinity in talent and that always seems to really get lost. All the hoohaa about them and the fussing over them always takes them away from what they really do best.
he used to have nothing but his own guys around him, a group of guys and he also kept his family around him, taking them on tours and so forth. Once he got married he got rid of all but the family. In Eddie's mind, he wanted people around him like Elvis had, his own Memphis Mafia. Surprising that none of those guys have done the tell all interviews or books that most yes men do when they get canned.Back in the day, Eddie was maybe the biggest star in the world and you know he was surrounded by yes-men and ass kissers. He probably never heard the word "no" or received insults. It makes for thin skin.
