Why is depression and anxiety so common nowadays?

It’s amazing what eating well can do. I don’t feel like our bodies were meant to consume processed crap all the time.
Yep. I get a takeaway every fortnight or so when I've had a bad day at work and CBF to cook. But it's often absolute garbage and I regret it. I definitely drink more than I should but I feel rubbish eating rubbish. I like to know what I'm putting into my body with fresh ingredients.

Because people are humans. They have emotions and different struggles

An average person's life is pretty unnatural. Buying food in restraunts and grocery stores, working a sedentary job in an office. Not having a close knit group of friends or family you see on a regular basis.

Based on talking to lots of super left-leaning and super right-leaning people, I believe you're spot on. Both sides have big issues with modernity that they'll admit are the root causes of their ennui.

Is it because people have too much free time and are stuck in their minds now?
I heard an explanation about how a big part is social media and just overall technology is a big cause. I think people and kids especially dont have to interact and socialize with others as much in person. So it obviously gives people social anxiety to do so. Just like how you would get anxious snowboarding or doing something for the first time. Its like that for a lot of people nowadays

Obviously a huge part of "depressed and anxious" people are just being little bitches and its fake news, they are exaggerating and are just drama queens. But it seems to be a real phenomenon especially for young adults and teenagers. Whats funny is you rarely hear it being a huge problem among older adults.

What is your theory?

you have faith or despair. many lack faith now.

People are stuck in a continuous loop of negativity and not actually living their own lives. Hell I’m doing it now

A lot of it I believe comes from people being ungrateful and get caught up thinking they’re a victim instead of realizing their potential and challenging themselves. Some people don’t have it as bad as they lead themselves to believe. There are many factors to consider but I think those add to it.

People realize that life is a terminal condition.

It's the food. Many people have food allergies that they aren't aware of. Gmo corn, wheat, and soy that are drenched in pesticides and herbicides year after year are in 90% of the food in our grocery stores.

I didn't realize it was a problem until I had a health crisis a few years ago. Now, I'm happier than ever. If I eat soy or wheat, I feel like putting a gun to my head for 2 days after.

In general, I think it's a simple matter of people's priorities being oriented towards things that don't offer any real satisfaction or contentment. Consumer culture probably has a lot to answer for in that regard.

As complex as human beings are, at our core we're simple animals. We need people to love, and to love us, something meaningful to do with our time. Maybe most importantly, the mental space to appreciate those things to the degree that we have them.

Probably a combination of several things. Social media is probably a huge part when kids are constantly pumped full of propaganda specifically designed to appeal to emotion and trying to "fit in" with people they don't even know. It doesn't seem like a coincidence that like 70% of gen z report having depression, and like 1 in 6 report being "LGBT".

I think doctors are pretty quick to diagnose depression and put people on medication as well.

The most fundamental aspect of reality is that life is suffering.

U just wanna reduce the amount that u stupidly suffer of your own accord.

Damn. I just had the urge to eat some fruity pebbles. Guess I’ll skip them at the store.

Both fruity and coco pebbles are delicious. I had a bowl of rice krispies a couple weeks ago before I saw that video and felt like crap afterwards. I usually tolerate rice ok so I don't know what the deal is if they're spraying the rice used in the cereal with that stuff or what.

The list of things I'll eat has shrunk a lot in the last few years but I do feel much better than I used to.
