Why is Aljamain Sterling being so disrespected?

UFC 300 was an amazing card and he almost ruined it with his backpacking shit.

Also he got very lucky in his title defenses and also lucky TJ fought him with one arm.

Just over a year ago Sterling was champion of the Bantam division and was cleaning it up. 3 solid title defenses until he lost to Omalley.
He got dominated strongly by Yan to get the belt, a DQ win.
Rematch is iffy. Like a draw to me. He won 2 3 more clearly than Yan 4 5. But how the fuck anyons won round 1.
In those 2 fights Yan was overal the MUCH better fighter. In 10 rounds Yan dominated 6, Aljamain only 2. Yan won like 7 out of 10 in those 2 fights.

Next fight Aljo vs Henry ? Ok he won, nice.

Than the TJ bullshit. Tj is handicaped still today. Can't stretch his arm out horizontaly. So in Aljamain 4 titles he only got 1 clear win. That DQ and Tj broken Shouldershaw wins don't count.
You can give him the second Yan fight.

Than lost to O Miley.

Great fighter, but never cleaned out the division. His title run is quiet lucky, to have 4 titles.

I don't hate him, he is a decent fighter. Just so lucky to not have a loss vs Yan. Yan messed up with that knee. He was owning him in that fight. Such a mess up. Never seen someone throw away a championship like that.

I dont exactly love aljo but he's a fighter who has worked hard and has earned every single opportunity he's ever been given nothing has been easy for him.

If he beats Evloev he should get the title fight at 45 against Illa. He has many career top 5 wins and that must be respected.

I thought the same. But to be honest, he could be more disrespected and taken off the card and i wouldnt care much
I'm looking forward to the Aljo/Evloev fight. I rather watch that fight than Stipe/Jones or Chandler/Olive. If you want excitement and sexy names then forget the Aljo fight. Chandler is past his prime and Stipe retired before the fight even started. Aljo/Evloev is a real fight with real contenders. I realize I'm in the minority but it is what it is.

He's kind of like Anthony Smith

He's so delusional to the point you worry about his mental health

He's never wrong and you can't tell him any different, ''I win that fight 9/10 times but just lost that one'', super annoying, always has excuses etc

He comes off as just fake and ingenuine and trying to be someone he's not
He is nothing like Anthony Smith. Anthony Smith continue his fight after being illegally punched (or kick, can't remember).

He could become a champion too, instead he acted like a man.

Because as good as he is he stunk up the card with his performance against Kattar.

It was a great performance for someone facing a top 10 guy when debuting in a new division, but from an entertainment perspective that fight sucked the excitement out of the arena.

Let him have an exciting performance and I'm sure he'll be back on the main card.

In his new FW debut, he made his appearance on UFC300... on the prelim, losing a main spot to the likes of Bore Nickal. Initially I chalked it up to it being the big 300 c00L numbers but his next fight on 310 against Evloev is AGAIN a prelim fight.

So what gives? Is he just boring? Is a Landwehr-Choi fight just more appealing?
This is definitely sterling brah

Lmao

All love tho

Sterling is a G and elite fighter

Ultimately, the internet hates everyone. Life hates everyone.

How you make peace with that energy, determines a lot brother.

I hated him from the beginning for something that might not have happened- didn't he used to do this ultra gay dance with his brother that looked straight out of the movie "Car Wash?" I can't find it anywhere now, surely I didn't hallucinate that.

He's boring, that's pretty much it.

The only time he was really marketable is when he won the title on DQ and got people mad.

It's not a respect thing, the UFC just thinks he's not that marketable, and they are probably correct.

Man, my favorite guy at 135 is probably Corey and when Aljo snatched his back like that and choked him out...I was like "okay this dude is a legit top tier grappler". I dont get the "he's boring" stuff. Yeah he's a grappler but it's not like he won't try to advance and finish. Guys have just gotten damn good at defending subs so Aljo controls them and wins that way.

It's too bad people don't think he's marketable. Heard interviews with him on MMA radio and he seems like a genuine guy. Not saying you're wrong, just that it's too bad he can't get better footing.

Sterling won the title with a fluke. To defend his title, he barely scraped by an overconfident Petr Yan (who had just mopped the floor with him in the previous fight). He then took on an injured, old, TJ Dillashaw, and an old (and overrated in his prime) Henry Midgejudo.

Got knocked out by rainbow dreadlocks... then laid and prayed Kattar.

As far as I am concerned, he hasn't won a fight since 2020, when he beat Cory Sandhagen in a legitimate fashion.

Stupid take. Could pick apart anyone's record that way.

Esp the rematch with Yan. Aljo learned his lesson about energy management and timing his grappling was the difference. Acting like a champion "wasn't motivated" to defend his title is ridiculous.

This didn't help.
When this originally happened I gave him the benefit of the doubt but watching it back it sure looks like he was playing it up.

Dana and Hunter don't like him.

Evoloev will probably out muscle him in the grappling but really rooting for him to make it all the way to a TS, just because I know the goof would hate that.
