Why is a failed drug test an NC, not a DQ?

Perhaps that's not how it works in the Olympics. But in the UFC, a DQ only happens for fouls inside the cage, not outside of it.

If you're on steroids inside the cage, that's a foul as far as I'm concerned. They don't stop the fight and test for peds and then get the results before resuming the fight because that's impractical. They get the results a couple weeks later but it amounts to the same thing, a foul inside the octagon.

You cannot give a loser the win because of that. But it should be a DQ. NC should only be reserved for accidental injuries or refs stopping a fight for no good reason.

I loved the contract clausule:

“Fighter agrees to be tested, immediately following the fight of each fighting event, to confirm the freedom from use of Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin, and Barbituates. Should the test result be positive, then, fighter shall forfeit all amounts payable under this agreement. Performance enhancing stimulants of steroid based family are specifically excluded from the scope of the test.“

Imagine after the fight is over they find a weapon. Like between rounds one fighter put something sharp on his glove. But they didn't catch it till after the fight. They're not going to DQ that guy?

100% agree and have always said this. The French commission actually does this and I think it's great. Damien Lapilus has like three losses on his record for fights he won but was juicing.

Because the fight was not conducted under agreed-upon rules, even though it still happened. For example, if someone misses weight, they can just cancel the match. They don't treat it as a DQ win for the other fighter. But when you find out AFTER the fact that the rules weren't followed, it's too late to call off the match. The best thing you can do is treat it as though it never happened, which is exactly what a No Contest result means.

But why is it different to any other form of intentional cheating in the cage that would lead to a DQ. Yan lost a world title on a DQ for an intentional foul. Why is juicing different?
