It was a huge mistake on the UFC's part having Cro Cop fight Gonzaga. He'd just won the Pride Open weight GP and was a top 5 ranked heavyweight. He should've come in and fought Sylvia for the belt right off the bat.

Sylvia was still the champ when Cro Cop came in. He had a tune up fight against Eddie Sanchez Feb of 07. Sylvia & Couture didn't fight until March.

The rematch went nearly exactly the same as the first fight, if not worse. Gonzaga was up 20-17 and dominating Cro Cop on the ground exactly like the first fight before Cro Cop landed a single punch that changed the fight around in the 3rd.

Let alone the difference in Gonzaga beating Cro Cop when he was #2 in the world and on the best run of his life vs Cro Cop beating Gonzaga when he was #14 in the world and on his worst run. Gonzaga beat Cro Cop in his prime while Cro Cop beat Gonzaga well past his prime.
