Why doesn't Werdum get credit for beating Fedor?

Was Fedor completely past it when he lost to Werdum?

I'm probably thr biggest FEDOR fan on earth, seen him fight multiple times........HE JUST GOT COUGHT IN THE TRIANGLE.....SIMPLE... he was in that position countless times against Nogeira and didn't do shit to him....he just got caught.

It's hard to say if he was  completely past it or not. He was still winning, but also ran Brett Rogers had him in serious trouble, just one fight prior, someone who'd have gotten completely Zulu'd five years earlier, even at his absolute best. Fedor was definitely already on the slide down, but I don't really think he was completely gone when he fought Werdum, and I think it is still one of the biggest wins and upsets ever in the sport, and Werdum definitely deserves all the credit. He baited Fedor beautifully and executed flawlessly.

He beat Fedor. It happened.

Was Fedor declining? Probably.

But if that's true, he was declining before that and still won those fights.

It's like saying Weidman deserves no credit for beating Anderson.

That's bullshit.

Fabricio is the darkhorse, always was. His win over Fedor was not a fluke, he was a nightmare matchup for him and his standup was getting even better.

Fedor fans would rather you believe it was being past his prime or Werdum being 9lbs heavier that caused him to moronically jump head first into Werdum's guard.

Twice.

In this specific match up I don't think it was a matter of physical prime... rather just being SO good for SO long and getting complacent. Anderson did this against Weidman, Lennox did this against Rahman (in boxing) etc.
Most real fans would agree 9 times out of 10 this wouldn't happen. Fedor would be just fight smarter and not go to ground. And Fedor definitely wins standing up.
IMO it was juiced up Bigfoot in the next fight who truly destroyed whatever was left of prime Fedor.. :(

Bigfoot Silva would go on to finish the last 16 fights of his career after beating Fedor, going 3-13 :\

Wins over Travis Browne, Overeem and Soa Palalei

Because the unbeaten Feodr cult. I remember exactly that everyone sias Fedor wins, noone said anything bout prime, when he lost it was called a fluke ect. Than he lost again and that's when his fans decided he was out of his prime. Had he won he would not be out of his prime.

Fedor was definitely out of his prime by The Andrei fight, I feel he was slightly out of his prime in this fight

Fedor was 34 y/o with 33 pro fights (all the greats usually decline around 30 pro fights), didn't look so great against Arlovski/Rogers, then lost two fights after Werdum. Safe to say this wasn't prime Fedor.

LOL @ anyone discrediting this win. It's not like it was a flash KO and you could blame Fedor's deminishing chin. If you've seen Werdum's fights, you'd know that he often flops and will do anything to try to bait his opponent into following him to the ground. Fedor took the bait and got submitted by the #1 BJJ fighter in MMA history. Absolutely no shame in that so I don't know why people feel the need to try and poke holes in it like it was some can who beat him. Fedor is and always was human and he was capable of losing even in his prime.

Strikeforce had the stronger HW division, didn’t it? UFC’s top guys were Cain, Junior, and Brock. Overeem knocked out 2 of them and Werdum took out Cain.

You would think that someone who posted as rarely as that guy did would have time to think before doing so. Instead he simply spews propaganda and revisionist history.

Fedor was past his prime but in his
last fights he was way more aggressive than his usual fights and it was his downfall.

Werdum never got respect for standing with Arlovski

Nobody really gives him credit. Everyone downplays his win by saying Fedor was past his prime. Fedor was 32 when he lost for the first time. At heavyweight that is young. When Fedor lost to Bader I could say he was truly past his prime and washed... but for Werdum? He's slightly past his prime at best. Some could argue he was still at his best. Yet no one gives credit to Werdum for figuring out Fedor and laying out a trap that Fedor fell right into.

Sherdog literally crashed when this happened. Fedor was also starting to get older even in the Brett Rogers fight you saw some decline in his fluidity.

Werdum was considered by many to be the GOAT until he fought Stipe.

Ummm....he did. Were you not watching MMA back then? It catapulted Werdum to the top of the conversation. He was on the rise until he lost his belt to a Stipe KO and then lost to Overeem....then Volkov...then got popped for roids and given a two year suspension. After that his shine was deeply tarnished. BUt most still consider him one of the best grapplers in the HW dividion.

I still thought he won the third Overeem fight. At the very least, a draw.

Overeem won but it was a shit win. Werdum looked like the better fighter, being competitive with a busted hamstring
