Why does the UFC hate MVP??

MVP was ranked in the top 15 at WW before they matched him against Shara at MW, at which point they dropped him from the WW rankings.

MVP was then ranked top 10 at MW after beating Shara and Canonnier, but now they've dropped him from the MW rankings (presumably because they're giving him a WW fight).

TS is correct, they're Stonewalling MVP.
OK, even if he was formerly ranked at 170, he was never highly ranked (#13).

#13 = not very enticing to the top of the division. Why would someone like JDM want the #13 guy? Not likely.

The rest are either injured, inactive or in some kind of limbo. Who that's ranked is he supposed to fight considering all this context?

(This is not to say the rankings are correct - people like Colby and Burns are still in them after all - but it's what they are.)

He’s a 40 one trick pony. The UFC is not going to sacrifice guys they think they can build for his sake.

A JDM fight (or anyone in the top 5) wouldn't make sense. But there's certainly people in the top 15 who would make sense and are available.

Buckley, Leon, Brady, Burns, Bonfim, Colby, and D-Rod are all available at 170. At 185, they could have done Izzy, Caio, RDR, Dolidze, Pyfer, RoboCop, or Brunno, but the UFC matched them all together and left MVP twisting in the wind.

Point being, there were 2 divisions full of reasonable options, and the UFC gave him none of them. And instead, they matched him against a complete no-name.

He's done better at MW, weird he wants to stay at WW. Also, pretty shitty they have him buried on the undercard of a UK event agsints some nobody. He must have pissed off the idiot matchmakers.

Strickland may just take MVP down, which would be understandable. Paul freakin' Daley was able to take MVP down, and MWs are a lot bigger.
Yeah he might. He supposedly has a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu...but never seems too interested in usung it. Probably never see this fight anyways.

it is odd that he's a stand up karate flashy fighter that the UFC would normally hype up, yet for some reason the most valuable seems the least.

dude needs a fight ASAP

If they were available, yes. But:

Leon and Brady were previously in that upper echelon where MVP wouldn't have been on radar. Now they've both recently been knocked out and probably won't fight for 6+ months.

Burns and Colby aren't taking fights regularly.

Buckley seems to be taking time off to work on his wrestling.

D-Rod allegedly in jail.

So really just Bonfim, but who knows if he was available for March.

At 185, many more options which is why I would have liked to see him settle down there but MVP seems set on 170.

I am 100% sure ufc have to offer few fights every year. Otherwise they would freeze matchmaking when its beneficial to do so.

People always look for rational calculated business reasons, but forget how irrational, lazy, petty and vindictive actual organizations can be. I mean fucking Dana White is in a position of leadership in this company.

This is the same company as WWE now. And WWE is notorious for burying guys who made a name for themselves outside its own system.

To the point that crazy fuck Vince McMahon flushed the collective WWE/WCW ratings down the toilet after the Monday Night Wars when he brought in WCW guys just to shit on them for no apparent reason and thus shit all over his own product in the process.

Who knows if that is the case, maybe Sean Shelby just thought MVP looked at him funny once.

Lol wtf are you taling about TKO got WWE just a few years ago after all that stuff....

I know. The actual point was made very clear in the first and final sentences even if you don't buy the relevance of the example.

The point is that fight/fake fight promotions do petty, lazy and retarded shit all the time. People trying to come up with rationales for this stupid piece of matchmaking are probably giving the UFC too much credit.

MVP versus Strickland would be a great fight. It would be great to see MVP take Strickland to the woodshed. That would be an above average entertainment value ass-whoopin' right there.
He would absolutely kill Strickland lol make him look like an amateur and the company would HATE it

Idk about this. I mean its his only path to victory is to try and grab hold but I don't think it would be easy for him. He's not exactly a very good or willing grappler.

MVP has had four fights in the UFC, four decisions, light on the action, with zero urgency. His best performance was in a loss and his best wins were against a fighter older than dirt (even non-trivially older than MVP himself!), and against a one-eyed mid-level kick-boxer pretending to fight MMA. He hasn't done anything in the UFC to show himself to be a contender or particularly marketable. Now he's getting a fight where either he finally shows up and puts on a show in victory, he gets to be the highlight reel for an aging prospect who needs a step-up in competition if he's going to stick around, or he puts on another dull clunker and the UFC writes him off as replaceable mid-card filler and he either likes it or asks for his release. Once you strip out nostalgia and seriously overrating Shara and end-stage Cannonier, that sounds like the right kind of fight for MVP's next fight.
Cmon, he was a hair away from beating Garry, who went full D1 with no striking. Just a few adjustments and would've won.

Dude is willing to fight whoever across 2 classes but had to beg for months and months to get booked and when they finally do its against a very underwhelming opponent all things considered no disrespect to Sam Patterson

because hes a very scary but very conservative striker who universally makes anyone he faces look terrible even if he loses. you cant use him as a stepping stone or to get a rub for prospects, you cant put him in with actual good guys cause he either actually wins or drops their stock.

He's a relatively entertaining "filler" type fighter. Clearly doesn't have the skillset or time to be champ in the UFC so the best thing they can do is make entertaining fights with the guy imo. Use him as a gatekeeper of sorts.

He's actually grown on me since coming to the UFC.

My old ladys cousins neighbors boyfriend does electrical work at the ufc. He said they hate mvp becuz he eats peoples food in the fridge. Stuff that is clearly marked. The worsed was when he took Hunter Campbells chicken carbonara leftovers that Hunters old lady made for his birthday.

I'm sure this sounded funny in your head.
