Why does 48 fps look like a soap opera?

i was watching Machete on my friends 3d tv and it had that same effect. it looked fucking awful IMO. very distracting for me.

My mom's high end TV has a similar effect. It's too clear. Throws everyone off for a bit.

Curious to see the Hobbit in this light.
