Yes, but then Pav was THE contender before Jones-Stipe was getting done. Pav was booked to fight for that spot before Jones-Gane even happened. But Jones wanted Stipe, bullshitted about retirement which puts further pressure on the UFC to book it instead of a real defense, and it gets delayed. THAT, combined with Jon's direct words saying he's not interested in defending against Tom are why people are considering the clock to have already been ticking on this matchup.

Now Aspinall is the clear next in line. If Jones doesn't take that fight, then yes he should be stripped.

But not yet. Having just fought, he still has a window to make up his mind. I'd say November.

Cyborg was suspended when the UFC wanted to put a belt together, so GDR beat Holly to become champ with Cyborg pretty much set to fight the winner once her suspension was up/reversed. GDR said she wasn't going to defend against Cyborg, and because she was not going to be defending, she was stripped 128 days after she won it.

We're currently at 123 days since Jon won. So when you say "a window to make up his mind," I hope you mean that Jon should she to fight, get scheduled, and fight to occur by November. That's a bit more realistic.

Cuz in my mind, If Jon doesn't clearly say, 'he will be defending against Tom, it's just a matter of negotiations at this point,' and retirement or vacating for another fight are still options in his mind even by the end of April, he should be stripped. Long as he is committed to it, then yeah, they're afforded some time to get it done.

Notice how he's defending Jon Jones as a business decision, and not from a merit standpoint? He didn't used to do that. He specifically called out UFC's business decisions as dirty scumbag bullshit when it came to things like how the UFC treated Mighty Mouse. To him, it's just, take whatever tact is needed at any given time to get to the end point he wants.

I might also be a giant windbag, but I'm here day in, day out, arguing for who has merit and what fighters need to do to earn opportunities based on the risks and qualities of their opponents and wins, refardless of their name, popularity, appeal to markets like nationality, religion, or color of their skin, or what money they make. People have so badly underestimated Jones star power it is unreal lol. That’s why this is happening the UFC as a company has more value with Jones as champ than Aspinall. People don’t understand Jones is a megastar trapped in an mma career. Even with his reputation if given an opportunity to be in a movie the fucking world goes crazy a second.
