MMA draws fighters from all walks of life. When I was a kid only loser karate kids trained. Fighters fought. I wouldn't wrestle no matter how much the coach and my friends tried to recruit me, I didn't like being touched I guess. I'm also short tempered and prone to violence. MMA was created to hash out who would win. The though guy? The trained? The big and strong or the small and quick? MMA evolved and it's cool to train now. GSP probably wore his gi to school, guys like that aren't typically a fight to the death type. Tony Ferguson will fight until he can't anymore, he will fight bare knuckle, he'll probably fight in the street. He probably needs to fight to live. GSP won against Hendricks but caught an ass whipping, he wasn't about to go through that again, he didn't have to.

It's kinda funny how the majority of GOATs have losses due to arrogance. GSP, Silva, Fedor, Aldo, etc., all have bad losses from fighting like they're God's gift to fighting.

Luckily for GSP his was early in his career so got humbled then while still having room to grow instead of while on top (even if he was champ). In fact he later said that Serra experience is what allowed him to survive Condit's head kick as this time around he didn't panic when it happened and instead just focused on step by step working himself back to a neutral position and then got back to his gameplan. Side note, I was there for that fight and:

1. The loudest in-person crowd I've ever experienced is GSP's Condit walkout. Bigger than Conor/Khabib, NFL games, football games in England, etc. GSP was returning from his injury in his hometown of Montreal so the place went absolutely bonkers when he hit the crowd. IIRC even Rogan and Golberg were saying in the broadcast this was absolutely mind blowing them
2. The quietest I've ever heard a sporting crowd was when Condit floored GSP. Literally there was a stunned frozen moment where all 20,000 of us were in shock before the entire arena erupted to their feet jockeying for a view to not miss anything
3. The loudest in-person crowd I've ever experienced then got surpassed when GSP worked his way back to his feet. WAY louder than his walkout. Couldn't hear a goddamn thing.
4. Then it got surpassed again when GSP shortly afterwards proceeded to take Condit down. Swear the God the arena was shaking and we were legitimately fearful it would collapse.

ALWAYS go to an event if you can. Can be an absolutely fantastic experience (Cowboy/Al sucked balls though).

But it obviously IS a black mark on GSP's career that he ever needed that lesson when other GOATs didn't. Anybody pretending otherwise is lying. It was ridiculous earlier this week when people were pretending GSP should get extra points for defeating a "champion" in Serra when Serra was only champion because he beat GSP. At best something like that should be treating as the 1-1 they actually are, and probably really should be a mark against him considering Serra was gifted a shot and wasn't actually a WW contender.
